So I've been for my CovPoxLurgy test, what an unpleasant experience that is, I'm now isolating at home until Friday, so to prevent boredom I decided it would be a good idea to remove the towbar, it's brackets and wiring and clean it up, what a dirty, hateful job that is!!!

Hhhmmmm, what's the collective thoughts on this, it's pretty solid still but well rusted and severely pitted, the rust has eaten into it quite badly!!

Get the worst of the rust scale off with a cross-pein hammer or welder's slag/pick hammer then give it a good going over with a wire brush attachment on your drill.
Then you can examine the real condition of the substrate. If there are no serious structural weaknesses, then give it a good coating of Jenolite rust treatment, and when dry, a good coat or two of Hammerite.
It's probably not worth getting it all chrome plated.

HTH wink

Are you thinking of getting a caravan, or a trailer, or towing a Bobberoo FFS/burger/hot dog stand to the Pod?

If you have a bit of time to kill old boy you could always knock up an electrolysis bath and have a bit of fun with it. It's a fascinating process and does work well, have a Google / YouTube of "rust electrolysis" or similar.

Don't be tempted to substitute the 12V DC supply for a 415V 3 phase AC one to speed things up a bit though. It won't end too well.

Thanks for the advice chaps, but I've decided to leave it off the car, I've got both a flap wheel and wire knot wheel which I've attacked it with, I need two 24mm sockets/spanners and I only have one so I can remove the ball, so I've taken the towbar back to bare metal, put the brackets back on the car after taking them back to bare metal and giving them a coat of stone chip, and tucked the electrics up behind the bumper and secured with cable ties.
I don't actually have any use for the towbar it just came with the car, so until I decide what to do with it, it can sit in the shed and think about what it's done!!!

Hi all!

Bobbers, please be aware that big chunk of steel replaced the crash bar at the rear end of your Focus behind the plastic 'bumper'if it is the same procedure for fitting a towbar, as on my Golf!

Maybe check to see if was fitted in addition to the standard cross-member?

Thanks for the warning pequod, but the crash bar is still there, the towbar attaches via these two brackets on the rear chassis rails.

Which attach either (e before I) side here.

And the towbar attaches to the remaining holes you can see in the two brackets and then via a pair of shaped plates comes under the rear bumper like so.

I've lost track of how many of us are actually attending the TTSPRWYB, as for Percy and Rio racing down the strip, I'm fairly confident that Percy will have made it half way back to the pits by the time Rio finally crosses the finish line!!!
It is quite extreme in your quest for the fastestest Rioja Bleu on the 1/4 to have an endoscoop shoved up yer exhaust to check for valve clearance, and emissions's, if I may be so bald to suggest such tweakyiness b4 the big event, Bobbers!

Sadly, I will be absent in my attendance due to salty adventures but I shall look forward to reading the full report of the TTSPRWYB (Part 1) on my return.

If another resident wishes to post the TTFNQ this week, I'm sure Battert will be of assistance...
I would post a quiz of sorts this week but as i will be in that there Yorkshire, i don't know what the wifiy situation will be, otherwise i have some belting questions i could have included.

Excellent! You have now lost a chunk of weight (e b4 i) on the Rioja Bleu which should improve fuel consumption and, more importantly, saved a second or two on the standing 1/4 performance!! biggrin

BTW, what test did you have this morning, PCR or LFT? I guess the same procedure of shoving a stick down yer tonsils and up the hooter...?

Cassoulet eh?

Duck, pork, and chicken or the traditional sausage?

Can't beat a proper sausage cassoulet, IMHO! With a bottle of hearty Languedoc, delish... lick
