You see, cases like that, I’m convinced there’s some mental disorder at the root of it. It’s like he has an eating disorder, but not those at the other end of the spectrum.
I suspect that despite his bravado on social media he was a deeply unhappy man.

I wonder who was feeding him.

Totally - thats not a person with poor self control, going a bit too far, something else totally at play.

The stories of him attacking nurses sets him apart from the usual severely obese/ homebound type.

Exactly. Like these people who are so fat they can’t get out of bed but eat takeaways, pizza and crisps all day long. The family are also culpable.

My wife watched "My 600 pound life" on one of the Sky channels and I end up watching it with her, usually some immobile individual with a network of enablers, usually also fat but not anywhere near as big.

One theme that does come through is that a lot have been abused as children, especially the women, and they saw food as comfort and also as a potential way to put off their tormentors.

Some seem like nice people who just have no self control, some are utter horrors, manipulative and spiteful.

The most amazing thing is when they stand on the scales, have put a few pounds on at near 600 pounds and claim to have followed a 1400 calorie diet plan rigorously, er, well that bks or normal physics doesnt apply to you.

I've recently been going to the gym more and eating less (and healthier).

I'm down over a stone...what a surprise!

Yes, it's very sad that people can get like that. Definitely something underlying mentally there for sure, but likewise other people obviously feeding him which isn't good.

The human body is kinda designed to not fall apart if you run a lot, if you think about it.
Or at least, not until you've managed to procreate successfully.

Humans have large rear ends specifically to push us up fast into a run, short toes to help us accelerate, self-lubricating joints and much better balance than other animals so our head stays still when we run. How will that change once procreation's occurred?

How strong is the selection pressure for the ability to run into old age?

Both my and my wife's rear ends have enlargened significantly since procreation, adversely affecting our running ability. Informal observations show this to be a common occurrence.

This is true, the myth about runner's knee's (and other injuries) come from when someone has done zero activity all their life, reaches middle age slightly over weight and starts to run. As their body is not conditioned it can and does frequently break.

I can if you want, but it appears to be a complete non sequitur.

You have asked how the human adaptations to being able to run will change after procreating. Clearly they won't.

The point I replied to said "The human body is kinda designed to not fall apart if you run a lot".

The selection pressure is for it to last long enough to pass your genes on. It's not "designed" to do anything in old age.

I think it's a bit more than that. Humans also have a very long after-birth caring necessity. If you procreate and die whilst giving birth, if thr child has no other care it'll die. There are many reasons why we ought to live into later life.

There is a lot of truth in this.

Many people never achieve an adequate level of general conditioning

Hardly unique to running. Almost any type of exercise can screw up your body if you go from doing none to doing too much. The exception perhaps being swimming (as long as you don't drown!)?
