Stand-up Comedy
Discussion
Not sure if I've already said this further up the thread but I don't really get most American stand-up.
I know I'm in something of a minority but I find it hard to relate to a lot of their stories so they don't really trigger any laughter for me. guess that's why, despite the fact that a lot of his stuff is pretty basic, Peter Kay has been so successful. Mums buying st cola and friends of the family being called "Auntie" is something we can all relate to. Each to their own though.

Perfectly crafted, and makes some of the UK turns look like pub entertainers. IMO,
Bit of a thread resurrection here.
Recent shows I've been to include:
- Maisie Adam & Tez Ilyas. I've seen Tez a few times and he's one of my favourite comics. Maisie Adam was better than I expected so I'll look out for her when she's in the area again.
- Adam Rowe supported by Thomas Green, both of whom were excellent.
- Chris Washington & Liam Farrelly. Liam was late replacement for Paul McCaffrey. I'd not heard of him before but he was really, really good. Only 22 years old and has a big future judging by his performance so I'd recommend going to see him if you can.

Alexi Sayle’s autobiography “Stalin ate my homework” is brilliant, if you want an insight into the alternative comedy culture origins, it’s well worth a read.
His childhood growing up in Bootle with parents who were fully paid up members of the communist party is mind boggling to me, having been brought up by born again Christians in Middle Class Formby. His summer holidays involved a state run hotel the other side of the iron curtain, and mine involved camping in Bravaria, and visiting a concentration camp.He went to Southport Tech, which is where my wife went. She hates him. I don't.
Saw John Bishop last night. Relatively small venue (400-500 people maybe) in what was supposed to be a warm up for the big show he's just done but has been postponed for nearly 2 years due to covid. Really nice atmosphere, rather than a big polished show it was just him sat on a stool telling some stories and riffing off the front row. First time I've seen him other than on panel shows, would definitely see him again.
I went to see Stewart Lee in Guildford last week and to be honest he was pretty rubbish. And I think he knew it too.
With hindsight I really wish I had gone home at the interval rather than bother staying for the second half.
I convinced myself that things can only get better but I was so wrong.

Eddie Izzard…. Used to be brilliant, now as a woman, she isn't as funny
I thought this too: from comedy genius to meh…Thus proving Sick Boy’s unified theory of life.
I think partly it's because the "clever stream of consciousness" was brilliant when it was fresh but for the past decade or so it's just been "Eddie Izzard being Eddie Izzard" if that makes any sense. You know what to expect and it just feels a bit "same old, same old" now.

I would also pay to see Lewis Black his rant cast is superb almost like a sort of American terry Wogan, where his fans write a lot of the material.
Tom Segura is also worth a shout.
American comics, yes I get it, I feel the same about most female comics who either try and be rude and talk about sex 90% of the time (yawn) or their race.
But if you dig around there are some very good ones, though even Chapelle just tends to stick to race a lot, but he is a genuinely brilliant comic.

Got an email last week saying Micky Flanagan is doing six nights at the tiny Leicester Square Theatre.
Went into my spam folder and by the time I saw it, two hours later, they were completely sold out.
That was lucky.Went into my spam folder and by the time I saw it, two hours later, they were completely sold out.
I'm off to see Dave Gorman later this year. Also going to a local comedy gig with non famous comedians usually soon.

work in progress is defo the best way to see the bigger names
Saw Chris Rock last week at RAH, very enjoyable imo. At the level where no f***s given and some very witty observations and gags along the way. Not a 'I'm a big US star, worship me' show, which some of them can be
