What's wrong with 'one off'?

Baths have been run since before I was small and I'm nearly 70.
care to explain the definition of 'one off'?

just because something has been done since the 70s doesn't make it right.
What do you think it should be?

The 70's? the 1870s perhaps.

I like that, I'm going to use it.
Me too. After all, what's good for the goose is another man's meat.

Google why do we say one off. Originated in Britain in th 30s. It was the custom to give a number and then the word off. Eg 500 off so a one off would be something unique.

I guess Google never lies. I stand corrected.

What's wrong with gas pedal? I'm assuming you say 'i'm going to boil the water in the kettle' and 'Run some hot and cold water into the bath'?

Are you suggesting that whilst is an Americanism?

Put 50p in the parrot: What's wrong with train station?

Ideally "railway station" but train station differentiates from tram station, bus station etc.

Railway Station. Every time.

Not sure why but train station really grates.

Tramshed or tram depot, tram stop. Bus station, bus stop. Railway Station, station halt or halt.

The terminology for similar things doesn't have to be the same.

Plane Station. Oh, my good gawd. The very idea.

Hmmm, even the railways refer to them as train stations.

I degree that "train station" is acceptable and you may have back your 50p.

The last time I wnt on a train (a long time ago), the announcer kept talking about 'station stops'

"The next station stop will be Plunkington-on-the-wold".

The railways themselves refer to them as train stations?

Country going to the dogs.

50p? Why, that's almost ten shillings! I could stop for a pint on my way home.

I have a feeling that's a legal thing. If they say, "The next stop is Plunkington-on-the-Wold," and the train stops outside the station at a red signal and folk attempt, or worse succeed, to get out, the railway company would be liable. We live in litigious times.
