Employee appraisals using 'satisfactory' to mean 'not quite good enough'.
My son had a recent appraisal.

Put himself down as excellent.

Manager put him down at Above average.

He argued the toss, with 10 examples where he's better than above average.

Manager told him. Nobody in the organisation gets excellent.

Anyway.

It then goes to other managers to review, as is the process to ensure bias is removed from system. and came back excellent. Apparently 3 other managers questioned the first manager's low score. None of her other reviews with his peers were changed.

The assumption by writers that before they were born, nobody used contractions. We don't know how people in Tudor times spoke, so let's assume they spoke they way we do, its as good a guess as any and a lot less distracting than 'we cannot go yet because they have not prepared and we do not want to go if they are not ready' ETC ETC.
