Good job this isn't American Pistonheads.

HOME INVASION!!!

STAND YOUR GROUND!!

CASTLE LAW!!!

I never open the door unless someone has pre-booked an appointment; if the bell rings I just empty my rifle through the door.

I have a camera on my front door so I can check its an Amazon driver and not a group of gangbangers intent on HOME INVASION!!!!

There are a lot of people in this thread sounding like paranoid Moss in ‘The IT Crowd’

https://youtu.be/fkUNokNnD38

Also, this thread reminds me of one I started a few years ago:

“Do you answer your front door?”

Can’t believe that was 5yrs ago!
I rarely have anyone knock at the door other than delivery drivers now but do also have a camera at the front door for such as my home office is on the other side of the house and don’t always hear if someone knocks

Our last meter reader was a very pleasant young lady.
Would that change the results of the poll?

If you live at 14 Hamilton Road every time I knock and you don’t answer the bloody door it costs your housing association money. I don’t come and knock on it for free.

If I know about it yep. If I don’t know something is coming I won’t answer. She has a habit of just ordering stuff and expecting me to know about it.

Used to happen every so often at old house that meter reader would come to check solar panel meter

No problem at all, escort them to meter in down stairs stter, watch him take a picture, escort back to front door

If I literally had a smart meter? no

I've had this before when I didn't, let him in but didn't let him out of my site. Moaned he couldn't see the meter and asked me to go get step ladders. Obviously I didn't, just took a photo of the meter for him. Defo thought he was dodgy.

With my job i go into other peoples houses often and i was having a discussion just yesterday about this with a client.

It is amazing just what people have left out, not talking tvs and stuff which can’t be out away but expensive watches and such like and how quick they are to offer info such as “can’t do next week as we’re on holiday for a fortnight starting the 5th”!

Yes. I had exactly this situation recently and let him read the smart meter.

If it's a known scam I could be in trouble.

No.

I never answer the door or the landline either until I find out who it is and what they want and then whether it is worth my time.Invariably they either have a package for someone else or want to sell you something so I play the percentage game and don’t bother.

Last time I answered the door in 1993 we ended up with a new driveway, conservatory two dogs and some pegs my father went spare.

This. Grown men who won't open the door or answer the phone if they don't know who it is.
The outside world is really not a scary place.

I also find the poll and the posts in this thread really strange. Something so normal and easy, yet people find a way of unnecessarily turning it into something dangerous and difficult.

Elbow test? biggrin

My meters on are the outside of the house and I know when the meter readers have been because they invariably CBA to lock the meter cupboards properly and all the meter doors in the street are swinging around in the wind. mad
