The wet and windy, with occasional snow, 2022/2023 thread

MetOffice give a 30% chance of widespread snow in the south next week: https://twitter.com/Met4CastUK/status/160051871962...
70% says it goes further South in to France and just a coastal event (which always ends up as rain!).
That's the bad news - the good news is that means the cold block over the UK is stronger, lasting longer - other chances of snow to come.

Cold is getting more and more entrenched. Just had a lovely moonlit walk with the dog and everything is frozen white.
From this point on there will be surprise snow. We've got slack pressure around us but lots of opportunity for small scale low pressure pockets and troughs to deliver a few cm of snow. Anywhere.
There's one possible for the Peak District area Friday, a possible one for the SE on Sunday.

Right then - update time after the morning models. It's clear there is unanimity in the models as to what happens to the Atlantic low. The bad news if you wanted frontal snowmeggeddon is it looks like it's going wayyyy south and in to Europe (great for the Alpine ski resorts!).
Wait, wait... the good news for cold lovers is it allows a stronger, longer lasting cold block above the UK.
So we wait for snow, but any precipitation that arrives is now not marginal...

I mentioned this previously - but chance of surprise snow for far SE on Sunday. Not all models show this, so treat with caution. Also note that that's a rain to snow event, so some might be disappointed!
Met Office have a warning for this:https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-...
Sunday snow for southernmost counties, here's what it might look like. Really tricky to model.

I'm aware where you live and the weather you get (you post about it a lot).
This is today in to tomorrow - just one person's thoughts... Hills around Stroud have apparently already had 20cm!
