Thread killers!
Not going to name the half dozen or so, however when certain user names appear in a thread I just give up reading it.
They bring nothing to the discussion other than their own pedantry, total time wasters who haven't graduated from the playground!

Shouldn't that be "we over 40s"?

Thread titles that mean something else, then you get disappoint when you read them.

Like this one and the R wagon thread.

You do realise… spouted by a condescending little herbert about to announce something totally fecking obvious.

"IMO/IMHO". Who else's opinion would it be, when you're the one posting?

Getting "your/you're" and "they're/there/their" wrong should warrant suspension on any forum.

Thread titles without capital letters or vague statements such as "What would you do?".

Cliches, hackneyed phrases, reliance on abbreviations, "+1", and so on. Just shows a lack of thinking or originality. We've all got our own experience and knowledge, and can usually bring something to a discussion, it just sometimes doesn't seem to work out that way.

I have no problem with this. It's to make it clear that a statement should be regarded as opinion rather than fact. There are plenty on PH who will post statements as if they were fact when they are quite wrong. An example would be the chap in the recent "speedometers vs GPS" thread in SP&L who stated that GPS stands for "Gobal Positioning by Satellite" (sic) and then condescendingly added that "there's a clue in the name of where the signals come from".

IMO, a few more IMOs wouldn't go amiss.

I was going to post this, but assumed that someone else had done so early on page 1.

Delete.

Someone a year or two ago was asking how to do a pond delete in their garden.

EGR delete. Cat delete. Just no, mate. It's EGR removal or bypass. Same with your catalytic converter.

Particular favourites to grind my gears, as already mentioned, pull the trigger on, wrist time and any poor grammar or spelling.
You're as bad as them - "grind my gears" indeed !

Someone could still say something is a "fact" though, even when it isn't. All posts are views and opinions of the poster.

I think the "+1" thing might be due to the lack of a 'Like' button on this forum that others have. Having said that, unless I have something further to add it seems a bit pointless just to post "+1" so I tend not to bother (though I'm sure I must have at some point, before some pedant searches my old posts. biggrin ).

Speaking of pedants; I supposed that's my pet hate, especially if it's pretty obvious to most other posters what the spirit of the post was. I'm sure I've posted things that grate others though, so I'll shut up now. biggrin

“Like” buttons are pretty good actually.

I agree. Especially gerbils that get stuck at the bottom of the cardboard tube and won't emerge until some bd sets light to your fart. furious
