The spelling Nazis that basically just post to make themselves look big highlighting mistakes. There is zero link between spelling mistakes v intelligence but thisthese tossers think differently.

It is sad because if they really wanted to make a difference they would become teachers (couldn't hack it) instead of correcting people on a motor pet forum .

P.S. Teachers' salaries are woefully inadequate, I'm surprised any remain in their positions.

Also threads where someone has made a mistake (e.g. they misread the OP) and instead of saying "whoops, I misunderstood/misread/focused on something you weren't actually talking about so I can flex this piece of knowledge I recently acquired" just doubles down again, and again, and again.
I've got to disagree with this one - watching somebody choose to die on a completely indefensible hill is one of the great pleasures of internet forums. As an Alan Partridge fan I think of it as the 'Worth of Boast Worlds' strategy.

Have we had faux-ignorance yet?

You know, the people that pretend to be so far above the plane of us normal folk that they haven't heard of <incredibly well-known thing or person>.

That's a good one when the latest participants in "Celebrity ........ " are announced.

I had an extraordinary experience with this a while back. I didn't recognise one of the actors from Coronation Street, which I've never seen. (Also I've mostly been overseas for the last 28 years).

All hell broke loose.

A) The [insert topic] OFFICIAL thread.

2 things here: 1) why is it the official thread (and who made you the one designate what's official or not) and 2) everything in a forum is a thread, so add the word 'thread'?

B) mostly in NPE, those who post a link to a news site, and that's it. No comment, no question, no opinion. Nothing.

That's one of my many annoyances. People assuming that I MUST know so-and-so because he or she is very famous. I don't watch any broadcast TV ( I don't have a TV licence), I don't get a newspaper and I have zero interest in sport. I don't care a jot about celebrity culture, so how on earth would I know random people on Celebrity Jungle or whatever. I do watch Netflix from time to time, and sometimes I know the names of the actors. Most of the time not.

It's not a forum thing specifically - it mostly happens in real life. Last time was just the other day. Someone I was on a Teams call with was incredulous that I didn't know the guy from Big Bang since I work in IT. Well sorry but I haven't watched it. How would I know him?

When someone mentions 'Ronnie Pickering' and there then follows all the dheads quoting it and say 'Who' etc etc

So fking boring and predictable.

I'll try not to be a bellend, but instead I just Googled the name to see if I knew who he is/was*. I vaguely recognised the story, but didn't realise the significance as I must have seen people referencing him.

In fact I first thought he must be something to do with football, because I don't have a clue about footballers/commentators other than some really well known household names that I see on the news or perhaps appear on non-football TV shows.

Just goes to show that not everyone is deliberately 'being a dhead' though maybe it's an in forum 'joke' that I just haven't come across before.

* This is the response I'd expect most reasonable people to take when a name pops up that they don't recognise, rather than just saying 'who?' especially if it's on the obituary thread.

You're missing the point. The whole Ronnie Pickering thing was him doing the whole do you know who I am and the guy on the bike saying "who?". That's why people respond with that. They know who it is.

This;

Used by one poster (who I won't name) fairly often when trying to show some sort of superiority when discussing either financial or class supposed advantage.

Apologies, no my comments and frustration is to the people who do know the old, well weathered joke but insist on going through the motions thinking it's still funny after all the years and many many quotations.

It's a pet forum hate of mine.

Also I'll apologise for my use of insulting language - its just fuelled by irritation of that bloody 'joke'

My biggest pet hate of forums and the internet in general, is the propensity for people to talk to others in a way that they'd almost certainly never do in a face to face situation.

That and the "it's only the internet".
