I only recently twigged that the name Bluebottle for a common house fly is because it has a blue rear quarter and that the ‘bottle’ part of the name is rhyming slang. I never connected it with phrase “running around like a blue arsed fly” either.

Was moaning about this to the wife about a year ago when she asked why I didn't buy one of those jumpers with the faux collar sewn in to look like a shirt underneath when there isn't one really? I didn't know what she was on about so she showed me the next time we were in town. Mind blown. Life changing or what. I've got about 10 of them now. Had to wait until I was 54 to find out they'd been invented!

I was round at a friends house the other day (we're both 60) when he opened a new roll off cling film. As he pulled some out, the whole roll came out of the box. He started moaning so I showed him the two flaps at each end of the box, that you push inwards to secure the cling film in place, so it spins round in the box . He couldn't believe it!
I'm of a similar vintage and only discovered this in the past year. Are you sure it's not some new-fangled thing?

I was producing film and foil 25 years ago, and the tabs existed then.

48 years old here and have only just learnt that, my all time favourite film too!
That's wrong, his name was Emmett, not Emit.

I'm 50 and have only just realised that I'm no longer 21. Cuts/bruises/scrapes that used to take 2 days to heal now take a week or two.

What's wrong with that?

Anyway, Beige is far more colourful than the black, white and grey of our youth.
Or in my case, Sepia. biggrin

Never fancied the idea of eating something that came out of a bee's bottom so avoided honey for over 60 years, then found out it was delicious. Gah.

Easy enough to check ...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Championship_Cou...

University Boat Race goes upstream (apart from 1846, 1856 and 1863). Other races on the same course go downstream.

I didn't know that until watching The Wheel on Saturday.

They had Bez as the Bee expert and he didn't know that (or anything else, to be fair) either!

If bees were on the minimum wage a jar of honey would cost £300,000.

Off Topic. Sorry.

Someone needs to manufacture a shirt/pullover/slacks/moccasins onesie type suit..

I'll take one in each colour !

If it had an extendable hood in black, that could be pulled down as a body bag..
