Not complaining but, even in respectable residences I remember
a lot more house flies in the sugar bowls and butter dishes in the warmer weather.
They used to have little doilies covering them sometimes. And of course, flypapers...

The whirring sound of the electric milk floats and breadvans in Dublin when I was a child. Then the sounds of the milk bottles being put on the step . You had to get them in quickly before the birds pecked through the foil tops.
Thanks to The Modern Milkman service this still happens and wakes me up at 5:30am. Funny how an electric motor can sound like an air raid siren.
Yes but it used to be a brilliant early warning when you were out nicking all the money people left out for the Milkie whistle

This is Cannon Street Station Concourse facing northward, in july, I966.
Many a time in the late 80's I used to drink in the Buffet Bar when the trains were delayed. You could read the departure boards from the pub with a beer in your hand.

Nice.

Puts me in mind of a place where I used to hang out sometimes in my youth - Mercia Square in Chester city centre.

It was a brutalist concrete affair, but I for one really liked it, and I was quite sad when they knocked it down in the late 80s.

These used to be popular in residential areas. I could hardly move ours. Good excercise though.

Yes - flan. And my Mum certainly wasn't posh back then. (But she is now.)
