Great to read stuff like this on this thread; such a contrast to some people's comments on London that come up in other threads. I work in London and a week ago I walked from Westminster through Pimlico and down Lupus Street so I could then cross Chelsea Bridge to have a look at Battersea Power Station for the first time since it's been redeveloped. Pimlico is such an odd contradiction of different homes, shops, pubs and other businesses. Not for everyone, but I found it fascinating.
I had a little wonder down that way from Charring Cross

I also walked from Battersea Power station to London bridge across eight bridges
That second walk looks excellent - will suggest that to the OH.

Apart from enjoying just walking around, one of the worst things to happen in London is to find yourself there without any kind of a plan and no clue where to go. This happened to me a few years ago when I was with my 9yr old lad, we went to EGX gaming Exhibition for the day which was utter garbage so left after an hour, tube into London but I had no plan B. Horrible waste of time trying to think of where to go with a 9yr old.

Always have a plan B, or at least have a bit of a plan. Wandering around aimlessly could be good, but you may get the horrible feeling of missing out on stuff you don't know about.

Walking along the river and crossing back and forth at each bridge looks really good.

Several years ago, me and a mate went and visited several locations where Minder was filmed. That was a good day out if you are interested in a certain TV programme.

There are lots of places in London that have been used in films from James Bond to Harry Potter.
Hobbs & Shaw was partly filmed outside Lloyds of London

I think the Royal Festival Hall has a public area on the upper floors you can bring your lunch along to with great views of the river if you are taking a stroll along the South Bank.

I did this as a charity walk (Diabetes UK) in September last year.

We started in Battersea Park for Albert Bridge & then crossed back and forth with the finish at Potters Fields by Tower Bridge. We started early & were finished for lunch at St Katherine's Dock.

You can't walk over all of the bridges (some are railway only) & around Nine Elms there isn't a full river side pathway, so that bit's better being done on the north bank.

Talking of bridges, just standing on Waterloo Bridge on a fine evening and admiring the view in both directions must rank as one of the best things to do for free in London.
