I used to play in the casino frequently but stopped at COVID and have never gone back

You have to self deal, usually until the final table, that’s what put me off, I shuffle cards like a div so found that quite stressful lol

My local casino only has tournaments mid week so that can be challenging playing cards till 3am then going into work.

If it wasn’t for self dealing I would do it far more, the dealt sit and and gos in vegas are so much more fun, played a sit and go at Binions in 2018 or 19 and was sat with Victoria Correa Mitchel

It’s weird live is quite cliquey a pre flop raise out of position will often see the entire table call

Casinos in my experience are less glamourous than you might hope for.

My first experience was at the Lisboa in Macau. Hundreds of elderly chinese women taking into a below ground huge hall with carrier bags of cash playing for over 24 hours and losing all their money or they fell over in exhaustion. One man had to be stretchered out and was carried up the escalator. Like a Two Ronnies sketch, he slid off the stretcher and knocked people over as he went down hill,

Where do you live?

I play in this https://www.thenutspokerleague.com/

Play for points (although some venues have a side pot for money but you don’t have to partake), I enjoy the social side of it. If you come top r or so you qualify for regional or national finals which end up in a casino.

I didn't think anyone at the tables or machines looked particularly happy. It was the same at Caesar's Palace.
Why would they? Losing money isn't fun.

(The punters have to loose or the casino wouldn't exist.)

My brother was a croup in the 90’s and also said similar - but he was working in Luton, so adjust demographics accordingly.

No to pick on you personally Panamax but I'm curious to why lose seems such a common spelling mistake. Typo?

Anyway, only been once to Brighton & it was full of Chinese guys. Ended up in a fight but that's another story.

True, a well managed casino will make sure you win frequently on the slots but less than they do.

Boring as I am I've actually read studies on this.

They need a certain win percentage to keep them feeding the machine.

Losing all of the time would result in nobody playing. It's best to allow for a slow lose rate. Say 54 s 46. But obviously that's not even with big wins and big losers.

Table games like poker are different, they don't care who wins, they get a percentage.

I live near Shrewsbury. Looked at Genting in Wolverhampton but they only seem to play the cash games. I just want to try a sit down tournament to start and see how it goes.

Yup, simply a slip of the finger.

I'm often intrigued by the common spelling/understanding errors. For instance,
"Adverse to" in place of "Averse to".

"Mute point" in place of "Moot point".

I realise neither of those are spelling, both understanding, but can't think of the common spelling slips right now!

Mrs Malaprop (or is that Cynthia Bouquet?) Perhaps even Mr Spooner... Who knows.

Only yesterday I found myself over lunch talking about "Villy of the Lalley" in place of "Lilly of the Valley". Kenneth Williams would have been proud!

P.S. Did I spot a slip of the finger in your first word? No in place of not? smile

Hoist by his own petard, for all intensive porpoises. Which I suppose is all pass 'n parcel for the quick-fire replies required to survive on The Internet nowadays!

Umm, what?
It was a screen you tapped to place your virtual bet. You couldn't lose hence why they put it in the area where you just walked in.
Mmmm yes and then????
Errr what I said in my first post.
I’d say you could have made it clearer than the virtual machine gave out virtual prizes. You didn’t end up with anything.

I assumed that the £2M was as virtual as the machine…

It is at times like these that I am reminded what the local bookmaker said when asked for a tip.

“Keep out of my shop.”

If you download the Grosvenor Poker Live app it shows you which tournaments are running in each casino. Grosvenor Walsall at J10 on the M6 is an old school poker venue, would be my recommendation.

On Monday they have a £10 rebuy, it will be carnage. In the app you can see it had 49 entries, 108 rebuys and 37 addons this week. Looks like they did a deal 5 handed with 1st taking £400. It’s self dealt but there will be a decent dealer on each table who volunteers to deal for everyone.

Wednesday’s is a £40 dealer dealt. It’s limited to a max of 6 tables and starts at 5pm so if you choose to late reg there may be quite a wait.

I went once, walked out with a small fortune. Which would have been great, had I not walked in with a large one.

A friend played professional poker for a year, and made a living out of it, just not the fortune he'd hoped.

His tip: wear adult nappies so you don't have to leave the table.

Thanks for the info,a previous poster did say about Grosvenor and I have looked at the Walsall one so may plan for the dealer tourney!

I've only been once; that was to a Casino in Palm Springs.

I'd never gambled before, so I set myself a ($50) limit and kept to it. Once it was gone I walked away. Funny thing is I could see how people get drawn into it especially when playing things like Blackjack. Personally I've never had the desire to go back
