You can pay with card for the bridge but it involves all lanes being stopped, a little 4x4 with yellow lights coming over to lead you to the office thing on the side, an extra charge, lots of eye rolling and embarrassment.

Nice use of the rolleyes there, are you saying what I posted above doesnt happen when you get to the lane without any cash on you?

Just so I know.

Imagine what extra it costs the British Government to make all those extra signs with foreign writing on, in Wales. At least you know that your extra road tax is going to a good cause.

Damn Millions I tell you

Gets even more gauling (sorry) when you realise that the money ends up in France...
Thought Gordons coffers got a chunk as well?

Haven't any idea what Melvs on about, apart from Plotters explanation, you can only pay by cash, or in a fantastic genious bit of thinking, by cheque accompanied by a valid guarantee card smile

I'd love it if everyone tried to pay by cheque, that'd soon stuff them.

People are driving so fast to get out they wouldn't be able to break in time for the toll boths.

smile

Actually: word of advice. NEVER, EVER break the speed limit within a mile in either direction of those toll-booths. The limit there is RIDICULOUS (30mph what seems like a half a mile from the booths) and so a LOT of people break the limit. Hence the area is patrolled regularly by one of those nasty little vans where points don't exactly mean prizes.

It's like shooting fish in a barrel for them. Don't give them your money - they haven't done anything to deserve it.

From their website...

"Payment can be made by either Cash or Cheque with a valid cheque guarantee card only. We do not accept credit or debit cards."

My mistake -poor ol' bugger, got confused with the Midland Expressway -agolopies. So many roads, so little time... think I better change me handle to 'Losttheplot...winkgetmecoat

Try 50 into the booths.

You see those funny round signs on the side of the road? They tell you the speed limits... smile

I've been caught before over there (on the way out no less), and so yes, you're right about the vans, however, only the unaware get caught nowadays...

They dont encourage it due to the safety pullava mentioned above but in a pinch you can but only in the office to the left of the tolls.

It's also bloody expensive, first time I used it I thought it would be a couple of quid like the Dartford crossing but no it's £5.30. So I had to get off the exit before and go searching for a cash point. mad

And I bet you had a right laugh lurking around the depths of Avonmouth to find the tiny Natwest bank which is the only nearest cashpoint?

Funnily enough, just round the corner from me here now. And even more funnily enough, I'll be crossing the infernal bridge in about 45 minutes.

NOW I know why ppl dive off to the left!!

Crazy thing is, whilst they double the toll at Dartford (to £2!!), charge eight squid on the M6 Toll whilst towing a trailer, they don't load it on the Severn Bridge!! So I pay £5.30 for a 6.2T GVW 4x4 and trailer and my pal pays full van whack for a 1 tonne Connect! Keep it quiet though....)wink When he didn't after bunging £5.30 cash in, got stung for the high amount and fined on top .....Think the bill was near EIGHTY squid in the end eek!!

I'm still trying forget the horrors of Avonmouth. I think the toll/lack of credit cards is to lure people there so they can be mugged and raped by the locals.

You try working here. Its like a chav and pikey rodeo with added trucks.

However, the Mild to Wild chilli van on the corner on Avonmouth Way is well worth the trip while your out there searching for the bank.

I have always liked the phrase

"Brych am crows!"

A near perfect insult. And no adopted English words in it at all...
