No, boyo. It's for when you spy a Skoda Octavia Estate in your mirror travelling backwards at speed - apparently persuing you hotly in reverse - you'll know it's an Ambulance.

The flaw in their thinking, of course, is if you spotted you were being persued hotly by anything in reverse, either with blue lights or without, you'd probably get out of the way anyway.
