Hi everybody, I have been reading this since some time now and wanted to contribute something::

the two satellite shots from before do not indicate in my opinion that the shack was not there in the older image. From the newer image you can see shadows from the larger house in the south falling on the roof of the shack. In the older image however, the shadows from the cliff to the right are quite high. They might completely blend out the shack there.

I overlaid the two images and roated/scaled them so that they match 99% and then blended them into another. the shack is completely within the shadow of the cliff. It might be very well that the shack is hidden in the shadow instead of being newly built.

That was my feeling also.

Always a possibility, but the Southern end of the quarry face is much lower than the northern end, only 20-25ft compared to 60-70ft. Heres another one from Nov 1944, shadows in slightly different positions:-

howdy all been following this for a bit and really exciting. Cy hope the map that i sent you came in useful, to someone anyway.

Looking at the pictures and also playing about, no need to rescale or overlay. if you use a basic enhance / auto adjust you can see the difference between the dark shadow of the cliff face and the shadow created by the tree line, looking within the area that the shed is i would say it is not there in the autumn of 44.

A few suggestions on what it could be;

1. Barracks for enlisted men
2. barracks for prisoners (trusted ones ie cooks slaves etc)
3. Storage shed - wood etc
4. Another workshop, repair yard cars or guns!!!
5. Office / Operations building

Any CY keep up the good work

All the best

Craig

Nowt to do with my tunnel. Other end of the Island.

In other news, PHer mrmaggit popped in to have a look last night (he's on holiday over here). I have a picture which I'll upload later.

Also, the Planning authorities have given me the green light to do some more excavation biggrin

I was driving to see my granny and heard that BBC news story on the radio. Arrived at her house with her shopping and made up I had an opticians appointment and had to leave so I could come home and check if it was cy's tunnel! I am a bad person.

It was great to meet maggit and his good lady, although a shame he didn't bring the Grinnall over (I've always wanted to see one of those). He even managed a quick pose outside the bunker in his t-shirt ! thumbup
