Genuinely not trying to be provocative at all, but what is the attraction with either of these tattoos? I really don't get it.

I can understand and appreciate they are beautifully done.
Why do some people customise their car? Change hairstlyes? Eat at Nandos? Because why the fk not?
"Why the fk not" isn't really a reason as to why someone has a life-long body modification.

Why get so arsenal when someone asks a reasonable question? Oh, that's right - you have to give everyone an ego wk on this thread rolleyes
hehe

Why the fk not? Because you look like a total fking Bellend with a gorillas face on your calf?

Jeez. I asked a perfectly reasonable question and you act like your stereotype. A tattooed dick.
I clearly stated I was not being provocative.

But, thank you. You've reminded me why I come on PH once in a blue moon these days. It's full of s and chavs.
Well, I know I'm not a chav, so I must be a ...

...probably right tbh! hehe

Cool, not actually met anyone else who has had work by him before. He's a good guy but hard to track down I've found.

Lovely artwork there.
Thanks smile

Always feels weird when you get a compliment on your tattoo's as I'am just the canvas for the artist.

To buy a canvas from an art supplies shop would cost him a fiver, yet you rock up and pay hundreds to let them doodle for free.

I'm not a massive fan of the tattoo in question.

But honestly, the people banging on about how it's "fking tragic" "you look like a total bellend" calling people "s", "chavs" and "tattooed dicks" are the only ones coming across like a shower of pathetic, miserable wkers that have nothing better to do.

I put it to you, if you think that everyone here is a 'chav' or '', feel free to fk right off and don't come back, it's people like you that are dragging this place down from the tolerant fun environment it should be, to the one you think it's turning into.
Tolerance goes both ways fella.

And I am having fun, I haven't laughed as hard as I did when I clicked on here for ages! I wouldn't go so far as to call anyone a for having a tattoo, well not without meeting them first, but if you don't think the explosion of tattoos is being fuelled by errrrrm, lets say, the 'masses' then you are seriously deluded.

Used to be quirky, and expression of individualism even, now it is just fking tragic actually.

/the above represents my personal feelings, I do hope you will be respectful and tolerant of my views.

If you can't understand that sort of individuality, well, that's a bit sad.
But you're already individual. Why do you need to go to such relatively extreme lengths to emphasise it?

Do you honestly believe the people going and getting (most) of the sort of tattoos we're seeing in this thread, actual pieces of artwork, as opposed to a traced tribal sleeve, are going and doing so because they saw a chav in the street with such a design?

If you do, someone here is deluded, and it's not me.

I have a tattoo. Just one. And it's not finished (long stupid story)
But I'm 30, married, homeowner (x2) listen to metal, blues, rock, play guitar, have a degree, work as an engineer. Having a tattoo, to me, is absolutely nothing to do with 'fashion' or what 'the masses' are doing. If you can't understand that sort of individuality, well, that's a bit sad.
I don't remember saying people here were motivated to go and get their tattoos because a load of orange gym-aholic chavs have gone and done it.

I'm saying you are however aligning yourself with that segment of society whether you like it or not.

As for this 'artwork' that keeps getting bandied about. I can talk with some authority on that coming from a family of artists. Most of the stuff on here looks the produce of a late developing a-level student. Skulls etc - please.... don't convince yourself this is some highbrow artistic expression that the rest of us just don't 'get'. You only have to observe the confluence of subject matter to see that these 'artists' are as deep as a puddle in their expression.

Have you never customised anything you've ever owned? Modified a car in any way? Or a motorbike? Mountain bike? Musical instrument? Absolutely anything at all, to make it more suitable for you, to make it more ergonomic, nicer to look at? Anything at all?
Yeah I have to an extent. When I was younger. And then I sold them when my tastes changed and I grew out of it. Now I just look at barried up Corsas and the like and just think how fking tragic they are.

Am I doing this right?

Well put. I'm not inclined to have tattoos myself, and lets just say some on here would be to my taste and some are not. As you say - crack on.

That time again is it?

I don't understand why people have to justify tattoos? Do you have to justify why you don't like them or understand them.

While i hold no grudge against people who don't like them, I don't get why it's questioned.

As for the artistic comments, you would be suprised the background and abilities of some artists.

Don't say you weren't warned..!

They're really quite touchy about their, erm, 'art'.

And it's definitely NOT fashion, it's just a huge coincidence that everyone seems to be needing to 'express their individuality' in exactly the same way recently...

Ari,

It's upto you what you feel about it. It's not my place or anyone else's to tell you otherwise.

All I'm saying is people don't seem to be open minded enough to let people live how they wish.

The problem is and I grant you this one, there is a huge gulf between tattoo enthusiasts that follow the culture and the people in it and Dave who goes down the gym twice a week and gets some tribal cause his mate has it.

This does blur the lines and I appreciate that.

Its as simple as asking why you would have a womans car like an SLK 280 - you like them - simple really. Just like the chap who had the gorilla likes the art work and wanted it.

You know tattooing has been around since 6000BC ish?

It's not that you're not allowed to express an opinion, but if your opinion is that people with tattoos are s, and say so in a tattoo conversation, well that's not going to win you many friends.
Sorry, but where exactly did I say that?

doogz said:
Out of interest, what do you mean by recently? When do you think this 'happened'?

My grandpa and a few of his sailor mates had the same tattoo 70 years ago.
Right. And did his next door neighbour and the bird behind the bar at the local and the bloke on the till in the newsagent and the car salesman and every single member of the local football team and the bloke unblocking his drains and the girl in the chip shop and the bloke sweeping the road?

Face it, it is a recent fashion thing! biggrin

Not yours, obviously. I appreciate yours is a deeply meaningful piece of art that was only decided on after much meditation and no one knows you've got it anyway because it's hidden and very personal to you. Same as everyone else in this thread.

But the fact remains that it is currently fashionable, particularly among certain types, to have a tattoo.

God, I've started it all again with an innocent question.

For the record I clearly said I wasn't being provocative, I was merely showing an interest.

I then received an abusive answer so I bit.

I guess my question of 'what on earth would possess you to have a gorillas face emblazoned on your body' will have to go unanswered so the sensitive souls can feel free to express their "individualism" ( despite all looking identical nowadays)
