Do you have a tattoo?
Discussion
Yes, I can finally answer after having been interested in getting one for about 20 years. I've known for a while what I wanted and decided that I would get it done this year.
I'd sent an email to get a consultation at a shop to discuss my design but never heard back from them. Work got in the way and I never managed to just visit them. In the meantime, I stumbled upon an image on Instagram and decided straight away, that he was the person that would do the work and contacted another shop.
It's getting done at the only tattoo shop in London that I've ever been to, Into You. James Lovegrove is the artist. It's a work in progress, I've had 4 hours work, another 16-20 to go. A nice little first tattoo! It's still in the healing process, and not the best angle, but you get the idea!
I love it, another session booked for a few weeks time. I should have got it done years ago.
ps : Excuse the hairy nipple.

Nice. Keep the progress pics coming!
We were in again a couple of weeks back. Mrs Johnny was in for another (probably penultimate) session on her back piece.
She ended up walking out with the start of a Japanese sleeve (Samurai mask, peonies, and Geisha) on her right arm. As you do
Pic of the initial freehand sketching. Only the basic line work was done on the day.
Bit jealous! But has helped make my mind up about my backpiece at least.

Well in a strange twist of fate, it would appear that I am also now booked in for a hand poked piece by Kat. Saw it on her feed and thought that's the one for me.
I've actually reserved two, as there was another one of hers I really liked from a month or two ago, but I'm going to be a good boy and ration myself to one at a time because it's starting to get silly now.

Finally got in to see Kat today and you are quite right, she is absolutely adorable. What a lovely person, one that is very very talented indeed. My first hand poked tattoos (a little weird and very different from a machine, so much so, I don't feel I've had them done 8 hours ago):

It would now appear that I have now committed to some work by Kola....

At Le Mans, one of my mates commented about my lack of toenail on my left big toe, and that it looked like a face. Another, who's a graphic designer, got a Sharpie out and drew a smiley face on that toe. So, I think I'm going to get a smiley face on my left big toe as my FIRST tattoo, aged 46.

As a woman who has around 33.3% of my body tattooed....ouch. I've admired tattoos from afar for over 20 years, but still not convinced what design and where to get it. I've had a couple of small piercings to satisfy my "body-mod" desire, and to test the longevity factor (22 years and still no plans to remove it!) and still hanker for a tattoo.
I've watched the last few series of tattoo fixers (I know, I know - it's not real, and Sketch is scratcher) but also Ink Master. There's been a few stunning designs that the judges have subsequently ripped apart for subtle, but important details. After watching a few of them, I'm now realising the importance of finding somebody at the top of their game.
I've also visited a few local tattoo shops and been surprised at how flawed a lot of the designs are, even to an untrained eye like my own.
I've been following Przemek Malachowski from Blackpool for a while - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwK-Y-wCemY - and besides a few international artists, I think he is up to the job.
I really like the idea of a bio-mechanical design, shoulder and back or leg piece, but I fear that these may become dated like many tribal designs have, and again they are quite intricate and detailed so a skilled artist is must.
Who else should I be looking at, and is bio-mech going to say scream "That's so Twenty-teens" in a few years times?

Have loved watching the progress of your tats for a long time Johnny. Was looking at a comment Tony H left on a pic on Facebook the other day regarding tattoos and it took a while to twig that it was you!F**koff big beard and you've certainly been hitting the weights since those first pics of your sleeve work!

Thanks Beefmeister, appreciate it! It's been a long process. Will, hopefully, have some more to add soonish. Planning on starting my back, or possibly a full leg...F**koff big beard and you've certainly been hitting the weights since those first pics of your sleeve work!
Yeah, I've been training pretty hard, and put some decent size on! And the beard is pretty Zeus-like these days
The Mohican has made a little comeback lately too
