Pvapour - the trouble with fingers and hands is they're constantly exposed to the elements (how much time does your other half spend at re kitchen sink for example? 
), sunlight, being washed, stretched etc this will wear the ink out, it'll fade fast more so over knuckles and joints.
Also if you've been together 30 years? Your skin might not be as smooth as it once was, not meaning to sound rude! But this will also have an effect
A decent, honest tattooist will tell you what's best. But bare in mind there are also those that will tell you it'll be fine because they want the business.

Me & my lady are getting wed shortly and are having wedding rings tattooed so it can be more than just a piece of metal, or we'd like it to show something of what we mean to each other, 3D gears and chain that appear beneath out skin.

P.S. the girl I have a consultation with, Clara Sinclair does Star Wars stuff albeit somewhat off-beat!
