Hurrah! Tattooists can re-open on Monday!

I’m booked in for Friday laugh
I've been waiting since March (had an appointment for 1st week in April) to have the final 2 hours of colouring / finishing done on mine, was very very pleased when I heard the news earlier today.

Well done. I pinged mine as soon as it was announced, but despite all his claimed planning he now doesnt know when he's reopening.

I have a half finished job on one arm and a half Lasered on the other as it's too dark to cover up without the laser, and I want the top to match the rest of the sleeve so the 15 year old tribal has to go

well, that's erm..... well, it sends a message doesn't it?

good work though, if a tad disturbing!!
Well it’s erm I don’t know what it is but it’s awesome. Why is it stting gold coins into a dissembled guy?

I don’t really care because yeah it’s awesome. Just trying to work out what it is.

It's just that style of art I guess, the artist https://www.instagram.com/alboytattoo/?hl=en does this kinda folklore / illustrative style of tattoos and paintings. Some are based on old tales or characters, some are more conceptual.

Mine is based around avarice, or extreme greed, with the demon basically filling the man with gold to his death.

I didn't specifically choose that idea, I just spoke to the artist, referenced a few of his previous pieces I particularly liked, and let him do what he wanted.

I found that, for my earlier tattoos, I had very specific ideas in mind so I'd seek out artists whose work matched that style..

I'd still do that, as there are a few specific ideas I still have in mind, but more recently I tend to come across an artist whose work really catches my eye, so I'll speak with them and give them creative freedom..

I think it's a case of, as I get more covered, I feel like I'm collecting artists work rather than wanting a tattoo of something really specific (unless it's something that fits in well with their style, which would be a win-win), so I'm quite open with what I get from each artist.

I like your thesis. It’s a great idea as I think you see something new in it every time you look at it. As opposed to an image you’ve picked and already know. Also giving the artist creative reign I think you often get the best of them.

I got my first tattoo finished in February by Ky @ Nine Tails Tattoo in London.

I knew he wasn't working during lockdown so I also commissioned a painting of a koi for a bit of calming influence!

When I got the tattoo I swore it was way to painful and annoying to ever get another but 6 months later I'm thinking I look really uneven without a matching half-sleeve!

Nice work there ^^^.

Does it go under the armpit ?

Pain is different for everybody but armpit was generally reckoned to be a very bad place for it but I've watched a few YouTube

tat vids and some saying it was a doddle and way less painful than bits nearby .

I have ink up to near the armpit and I remember a fair bit of pain .

Thank you. The wind bars go up under the arm but leave a small triangle around the pit. Closer to the pit wasn't nice but all of the inside of the arm was pretty damn spicy! hehe

Nicee, can't beat a good Japanese sleeve.

I trecked from the NW to London many times about 10-11 years ago to get mine done. biggrin

I can appreciate the artwork in the Japanese inspired tattoo's and that looks good, it's not my thing though.

I'm eager to get something else done, however money is tight at the mo, come October, the wife will have a new job so hopefully I can get something towards the end of the year, I'm thinking something on my calf.

I'd also like to get something on my chest when my 2nd grandson is born, to represent both of my grandsons.

Interestingly I moved house during the lockdown and therefore have changed artists. The consequence of that seems to be that how painful inks is, is dependent less on where its being done and a lot more on the artist.

My new artist in chester is so gentle, whereas my previous artist in essex was like being tattooed with a red hit poker.

Both women too!

Right on the elbow bone still hurts though!

I've read that around the armpit is rough (which from experience it is IMO), but the centre of the armpit itself isn't as bad? Must be to do with where the nerves actually run...

I've seen some amazing armpit pieces but I have to say it's one place I'm holding off getting done..

Weirdly I'm probably going to get my knee ditches done eventually which is supposed to be grim - but armpits make me more uncomfortable laugh

When its been getting on a bit and its close to the armpit area I couldn't really tell where I was getting stabbed, my armpit isn't tattooed but at times it felt like it was being tattooed! laugh

The inside crease of your elbow is nasty, as soon as the needle touched it got pretty badly swollen, then a few hours later nipped back over it to colour it in. I watched her go back towards it and looked away and gritted my teeth.

Had this done yesterday on the side/rear of my calf. It’s a neo-traditional twist on an album cover of an album that I often listened to during a particular bad time over the last twelve months.

Nine hour sitting. Pain! Delighted with it.

I have a tattoo that extends into my right armpit - it's a scythe, part of an Iron Maiden piece, it hurt for me, a lot, to the point that I asked him to shorted the thing rather than complete it the intended length.

I won't be getting the left one done, that's for sure. grumpy
