Can someone explain the recent fashion for multiple tattoos that look like they cost a fiver each?

Whilst I am not a massive fan of tats I can appreciate the art of some of them. But I am seeing a lot of beautiful young people with what can best be described as doodles all over them and I don’t understand what the thought process is.

Saw that same advert and thought the same - just looks crap

Maybe so they can say “I’ve got 30 tattoos” or if they are addicted to getting them done it makes it manageable.

Little skill in any of them due to their simplicity

People with stick/poke tattoos - can you show me some inspiration
Where do you want it? My stick and poke are on my fingers so small. An Anchor, a Sunset/rise over water and a Lotus flower. I also have a Mandala on my ear, and side of my face as well as half a larger one behind my ear - although not stick and poke they were done in ‘style’ with a machine as dot work.

Back on Wednesday for more on my shin/full leg sleeve.

I’ve got this on my upper arm.

Done by hand with a single needle. Took ages but it was actually the nicest tattoo experience I’ve ever had.

I have two by Kat Blackstone at the Circle in London; one of her flowers and a kokeshi doll.

I'm thinking inside of my wrist.

They’re nothing of any note compared to the larger pieces. Just ‘walk in’ type stuff. Happy to DM them but not worthy of posting in here tbh.

Ok, I could Google this, but I'll ask here instead.

What's the USP of stick/poke tattooing?

It’s usually an artist and a needle, no machines.

You can buy do it at home kits but I’d say they’re a real good way to get an infection if you don’t know what you’re doing.

I understand what it is, what I'm essentially asking is - why would one choose to get a poke tattoo versus the usual machine method?

Does it allow you to have smaller tattoos with greater detail?

Not really, it’s just a different style.

I went for one because I liked the design and I was curious.

It’s kind of a hippy thing to do as well. The artist I went to also does reiki.

For some, one reason might be because it's the oldest way of doing it .. thousands of years old, and pretty much every culture has done it. Some deep anthropological connection

If you ever see an old hippy with Polynesian flower tattoos don't ask about them. Unless you want a two hour story about how they went backpacking around the pacific before everyone was doing it laugh

Aren't some of the very impressive full-body Japanese tattoos all hand-poked?

It’s definitely a different experience and ‘traditional’. I’ve been told that they’ll hold longer on my fingers and machine tattoos tend to drop out compared to hand pokes in the same location.

I’ve seen large back pieces being done in a traditional method at conventions.

Didn't realise they allowed internet access from El Salvador prisons.

Would you be so unnecessarily rude to a stranger's face?

I'm not sure anyone's opinion other than the recipient's really matters.
