Is there a copy of the original article online, somewhere? The OP's OP on page 1 was deleted.
I don't think so anymore (might be wrong), but if you email Dan he'll send you a copy of it. smile

I can't be bothered reading the diary, but can someone tell me the page he gets bummed on?

I was under the impression that Dan had removed it for possible inclusion in a book, as well?

Heard 10PS on Radio 2 earlier today - his part started just as I got in the car and I realised that I'd heard the name before biggrin

Some very well made and calmly put points I think.

OP was deleted but the replies sound as though he made an error and injured (maybe worse) someone? Could be wrong!

I'd like to assume no profit is being made by him if that's the case!

If you didn't read it he was quite straight up about what he did, admitted he was at fault and accepted the punishment.
His account of prison like was gripping reading.

OP - Did I just hear you on Radio 2 being interviewed?
Probably. He's bloody everywhere when anything remotely connected to crime/prison/driving is brought up.

"My cat likes to walk on the neighbours car and trigger their house security light. Are they in their rights to rape my dog?"

"Hmm interesting question. On the line we have Mr Short."
It's all connected see.
hehe

Tenuous, at best.

He actually had a hissy fit flounce about a football thread!! hehe

And he'll have to make time for a book if he ever wants to write it - family life leaves less time for writing! smile

Shame. Regardless of profiting from misdeeds or not(earlier comment, not mine) as far as most people are concerned, he's served his sentance, and it would have been an interesting read in greater detail.

I had a vague recollection he mentioned the possibility(might have been someone suggesting it), I've not looked at the thread since reading it shortly after it was written, along with a couple of other peoples stories about life in prison the most memorable being someone getting banged up in either Singapore or Thailand for a drugs offence that was nothing to do with him, getting paroled, and promptly getting the feck out of the country via the nearest border.

There's quite a few newspaper articles available via google, relating what happened, though not in the same detail as the original post (I can recall several details from it that made me cringe for both him and the poor biker).

ETA - yes, I do vaguely remember soem references to the football thread and the fallout. Didn't make the connection, though.

Reality is I was looking for work and didn't want the warts and all diary as an early hit on Google for prospective employers. Secondly, it had done the rounds on the internet and I had no control over its distribution and, thirdly, I had a hissy fit.

I did answer a thread in the help forum, saying I will happily email a copy of the diary to people if they send me a PM- which I still extend on here.

Did you ever document the wider prison experience, not specifically related to you and your case? I mean, what you saw, heard etc. Bullying, hierarchy, nice cons, bad screws, that sort of stuff.

I thought he (you - Dan) came across very well indeed. It can't be easy even now talking about such an event on national radio with possibly millions of listeners.

It's great that the thread has had a positive influence on your driving but I'm not seeing the connection between a 'spirited drive gone wrong' and 'driver with road rage considering deliberately ramming a motorcyclist'.
Think: 'Prison'. Think 'Prison showers'. Think 'Big Bubba in the prison showers'.

At some stage you'll see the connection. wink

I agree, I had the radio on whilst working and recognised Dan straight away. He manages to get his message across by recounting his own trauma and in an reasoned, articulate manner, that even plebs like us can take on board and learn from.

He does sound old though... wink

I just told it from my own perspective. There were the good, the bad and the ugly all over the place on all sides, and one or two stories that would be worth telling, but I never really sat and wrote it down.

Oh, and thank you to those who have been complimentary. I sound old? OLD?! Yep, that'll be me. smile

I recall this thread at the time and I remember just how impressed I was about the straightforward factuality and the lack of self pity. It was a very constructive and non-preachy story, but it did make me think. It achieved its point very well, and I have no idea why people would take a shot at the OP.

There are going to be bed wetters, who have nothing better to do with their time , in every thread.

Thank you Dan for posting your story, I cannot imagine the hell that you went through. The radio show link was very interesting. If I knew how to pm I would be requesting your prison diary.getmecoat
Firstly, it has made me a lot more aware on the local country road. I have to admit that I have been rather pushing it (sometimes doing 60) around corners and blind bends. Being 51 I should know better! I shudder to think what destruction I could have caused.
Secondly, I cannot understand how a parent could let a young girl walk on a road without a pavement in the dark. On narrow roads with tight corners, you can often be blinded by oncoming drivers who do not dip their beams quickly, or at all. In those few seconds you are unable to see what is ahead of you, especially a pedestrian in dark clothes.
