I've taken the bait.... Sanctimonious is the word that comes to mind when I think of Stewart lee. Look at me I'm so clever etc
That is, to be fair, the whole point of the character that he plays.
This is worth watching if you dislike him. (Also if you don’t)

He is exploring a little known and rather specific Form of comedy with his character and explains this in depth in his books.

Look up the braveheart clip on yt. He stands in front of a Glasgow audience and explains how he is 'scotch', that braveheart is a gay peado.

Takes balls!
I like him, I thought that performance about Braveheart/Scotland was getting some of them in the audience a little worked up looking at some of the faces there.

Any particular reasons?

Fair play to him I think, come from nowhere - now incredibly wealthy.

The Office - love it or hate it.. everyone has worked with a David Brent, and many comics have imitated him.

Did wonders for Karl Pilkington.

Doesn't take himself too seriously, and rips the piss out of those that do. His latest stand up after 5 years is excellent.

His laugh does annoy me... but no where near as much as Jimmy Carr's laugh mad

Thanks for trying...... I checked out several clips, and still don't find Dara funny. I guess it's good that we are all different.
Fair enough beer
Can't stand watching him on TV. He ends almost every joke with "EURRRRRGH".

I've seen several people walk out of a show in Edinburgh with a long story about jesus and vomit. We all paid.
Watching the crowd wax and wane between uncomfortable to bored to insulted to amazed, back to bored again and finally accepting that this is not normal 'comedy' - nore a battle of wits which SL will always win.

I think.
Ah, the joke that even Joe Pasquale couldn't steal.

He was so offended at Joe Pasquale stealing one of Michael Redmond's jokes he wrote a whole routine that Pasquale couldn't possibly steal. It's important to know the context.

That's the one. I thought it was an amazing spectical tbh. However, a year later some friends who hadn't seen him before, invited me to a show, I absolutely knew they would hate it, so told them not to bother. Even though I would have loved to go again. Is that wrong of me?

Pasquale should be on this thread. His plagiarism of others' jokes is well established. The Redmond gag in particular irked many. Squeaky-voiced tt.

Kiri Pritchard-McLean on HIGNFY last night - horrible cackling laugh & vague attempt at a couple of jokes. Grace Dent who appears to be a food critic of some sort - no contribution. It was the worst episode ever!

Blimey, I just looked her up, I think I've been confusing her with Phoebe Waller-Bridge who I reckon is very good (not just funny, but can also write, and do serious as well - Fleabag, Crashing, the droid in Solo, and wrote Killing Eve.

I used to think he was an unfunny, obnoxious cretin. I don't know if my tastes have changed or he has got better because now I think he is mostly unfunny and only mildly obnoxious.

Eddie Izzard - yes he does a lot of running for charity and I used to like some of his appearances on chat shows but I went to see him live at Motorpoint Cardiff with my wife who had a similar prior opinion on him.

I can honestly say neither of us laughed once, it was so painfully obvious that even his apparent adlibs and going off at a tangent were completely rehearsed.

Thread end?

is he actually a comedian though? He's kind of a comic actor / presenter... ish. Not sure he does stand up.

I think as they recruited him and flintoff it seems they just wanted nuts magazine LADS, rather than comedians.
