Unfunny Comedians
Discussion
Away from comedians though it was funny and got a good laugh.
Too many years ago Buddy Rich Big Band at Nottingham Town Hall. Very well known number completed. Buddy stands up, talks a bit then asks for requests.
Woman up in the balcony shouts out "Bolero." Cue quiet sniggers on stage and from various audience sat behind the band.
She keeps shouting out "Bolero, Bolero."
Buddy eventually raises his hands for quiet, looks up at the balcony " Madam, that was Bolero!"

Any comedian that talks about getting cancelled.
It just seems like a way for new or older comedians to grift or stay relevant and set up bait.
I can assure you, most young people don't give a st about cancelling you.

‘Can’t say anything about trans-people these days can you?
‘You’ll get cancelled. Or locked up. Can’t say anything about them going into ladies loos, can you?’
Proceeds to make jokes about trans people and ladies loos or whatever other subject gets you ‘cancelled’, whilst selling out big venues on a six month tour.
Ricky Gervais went down this track in my opinion. ‘Oooh spaz, yeah spaz, I said it, see, I don’t mean it though, spaz, right? Yeah, spaz? Can’t say spaz these days’
Desperate, right? Running out of new material, yeah? I’ve got a big house, I’m rich. No not like that that’s not what I mean, but I have though, yeah? That bible, it’s st, yeah? Pol Pot, he had some good ideas, no, no, oh come on, not the killing millions bit, oh, why would you..oh come on, not that bit, no, yeah?

Ricky gevais has always been like this. Can't stand the wker ever since the early days, you don't take the piss out if disabled people. I think he was on fist of fun a the time, which dates his wkerness to be at least 25 years if being insufferable..‘Can’t say anything about trans-people these days can you?

There’s a brand new series of World’s Most Dangerous Roads coming to Dave & UKTV Play.
Eight new episodes featuring a brand new batch of comedians navigating some of the most treacherous roads around the world.
I’m glad the blurb informed me there are comedians as I wouldn’t have known other wise.

He actually reminds me a bit of the late great Frankie Howard.

Rosie’s new show is out and it’s pretty good despite her, it’s low budget but the sort of thing Chris Evan’s would smash in his prime.
I’ll assume the show creators get a grant for being Uber inclusive.
Point of note - no subtitles are available

This discussion might be better in the proper thread but here goes.Eight new episodes featuring a brand new batch of comedians navigating some of the most treacherous roads around the world.

In reality though there are some names there, but accept you might not have heard of Rhod Gilbert, or Angela Barnes, or Mike Wozniak, or Desiree Burch, or Jamali Maddix, or Seann Walsh, or turning onto non comedians, David Harewood and Joe Swash (actors), or Jeff Stelling ( TV sports reporter) and Chris Kamara (ex footballer and pundit). That leaves only 5 out of the 16 series cast as relative unknowns, but that could be my ignorance.
Looking back comedians have never been exclusively selected, eg Charley Boorman paired up with Sue Perkins on the S1 Ep1. Or Angus Deayton and Mariella Frostrup, which played on a running gag from some show where Angus was supposed to have erotic dreams due to having a bit of a repressed thing for Mariella.
This show works best where the two principals know each other beforehand, get on well, and a fair bit of banter results, where stand ups are best equipped. Though it can work with non comedians too, eg Stelling and Kamara, who have both appeared as themselves on comedy show Ted Lasso, though must be said watching Chris struggle with his apraxia was hard at times, poor bugger.
Where it can struggle to work is pairing up two very different characters who have never met, made worse when they just don't develop any chemistry, one tries too hard and is frankly an arse example Labib , and the other, example Wozniak, tries to make the best of it but clearly is completely pissed off by their imposed travel partner.
It's a light entertainment travel show where individuals are put out of comfort zone with driving situations in remote areas, and you see some odd and different sights around the world never covered by the usual travel shows. Depends if you're interested or not, for example I'd love to have a go on those roads in the Italian Alps covered by Rhod and Angela. Either you get the concept, or you don't.

Similarly John Bishop did one last year and it wasn't actually a work in progress, just fancied doing a bit of stand up after his panto as he hadn't done any for a couple of years. strolled out in jeans and a tee rather than the usual tv suited look and simply blagged it as a Q&A and spun a few yarns off the back of that; was very amusing and engaging with some really good crowd work.
I saw John Bishop do an after dinner at a Waste Management conference the year before he properly broke through. Usual form for these gigs are a few gags about the topic of the conference and some light piss-taking of a few industry characters followed by 25 mins of their normal stuff. He had properly researched the subject and did an entire 45 minutes on waste. Absolutely hilarious and highly impressive. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
