Spain for a week...I need a good book.
Discussion
I have tomorrow to walk into a store (or at the airport maybe) and pick up a good read or two to keep me happy near the pool and in the evenings.
What do I like? Good question.
Probably something blokey, not too thick (I mean the book), words not too small neither Maybe a setting in a hot climate as that normally does it for me when I'm in a hot place.
Anyone read something up to date recently that they consider a 'must read'?

C.J. Sansom's novels on Shardlake, starting with 'Dissolution'. Detective stories, but set at the time of the reformation. A good read, and they taught me more about that period of history than 'O' level History and every stuffy BBC constume drama ever made.

Anything by Lee Child ticks most of those boxes. For shameless, rambo style (but still quite good) action any of the 'scarecrow' series by Matthew Reilly are good - I've demolished one every time I've gone on a long weekend away recently.
Bones of the Hills by Conn Iggudden was pretty good if you Bernard Cornwall type stuff.
Of all of them I'd get the latest Lee Child book (which I've yet to read, waiting for it to come out in paperback.)

There was a film I saw about a year ago that whilst not titled the same, sounds like a very similar version of that.Plotloss said:

Wife's reading these at the moment, I think they are great, she hasn't spoken to me in a week. Edited by grumbledoak on Thursday 20th August 18:59
