Someone earlier in the thread posted Stourbridge?

Which does seem a bit odd, it's a totally inoffensive town, certainly compared to the W Midlands greats of The Black Country/Kidderminster/birmingham/wolverhampton/Coventry

Every time I drive through it I can't see anything decadent or really bad at all, perhaps someone can illuminate me.
The post was from 11 years ago, in fairness. I lived there for 3 years and traffic (and funny accents) aside, it's really not that bad. Hagley, Pedmore, Wollaston and Norton are all decent to very nice areas. Perhaps its proximity to Dudley, Brierley Hill and Cradley Heath lets it down a bit.

Love that fact my city Hull always comes up on these threads.

Yes it's dreadful, you'll die if you come, it's covered in crap all the time, everyone fights, dogs run wild etc. etc. etc.

DON'T COME SERIOUSLY DON'T COME

It's also out of the way, quiet, calm, easy to get around, friendly, out of the way, green and wonderful.

SERIOUSLY STAY THE FECK AWAY

I stayed two nights in Hull last year, I was on crutches at the time. I've never felt like prey in my 48 years of life but I did in Hull. The swathes if underclass seemed to be circling all around waiting to strike.
It was really only put into a more positive context when I reached Middlesbrough.

And the accent has no place in the civilised world.

Selby.
I wasn’t expecting to see that on the first page. Having spent three quarters of my life living 5 miles away, I agree it’s not amazing but there are plenty of places that are worse. Goole and Hull to name two within 40 miles

Heh, that old really? wow, can't disagree about the proximity to 'those places' shudder though.

Not sure if it's been mentioned so far, lots of worthy places to be 'erased'; however Keighley gets my vote, makes Bingley look reet posh.

I went to Keighley once, I was there on a Saturday afternoon. I have never been to a town before and seen people lying in the gutter completely and totally out of their minds, not just one or two either.

Dundee was a close second. I was parking my car and saw a man come out of a basement bar on his knees, he got to street level, pulled himself up an iron railings to work out where he was, then went along the pavement on his hands and knees.

I must have lead a sheltered life

One of my friends went to Luton university or whatever it was called in 1991 as he'd flunked his A-levels and they'd have pretty much anyone.

I went to see him a couple of times and it's reassuring it hasn't improved at all in the past thirty years laugh

I can't remember a great deal about it apart from it being an utter sthole, but something that has stuck in my mind is that the student union bouncers were pretty much gangsters to stop the other gangsters getting in and drug dealing!

His sister went to Liverpool to study occupational therapy and I went to see her a few times too. I think her campus was in a place called 'Fiveways' and, although it seemed like quite a posh neighbourhood, the interior of the local off-licence was walled off with perspex so you had to point at what you wanted on the shelf and then have it posted to you through a slot. Given I lived in Sheffield at the time, which was pretty rough too, I'd never seen this so it was a bit of an eye opener.

I'm not nominating Liverpool though, I liked it a lot.

Has Corby been mentioned?

I've not been there for over 20 years, so it may have improved (or already been erased from the map), but it seemed to be the worst kind of "new town" (worse than Cumbernauld and Harlow, and far, far, worse than Milton Keynes, where I lived at the time). The shopping centre was devoid of any character, had no decent shops, and was full of unemployed Scots shambling along in their trackies.

Peterborough was pretty bad too, but it did still have the odd original building amongst the sea of concrete.

We do have a few awful towns down here in Cornwall too - Redruth, Camborne, and worst of all, Bodmin. None of them are as bad as Corby, but totally out of place in such a beautiful county.

Has Luton been mentioned recently ? I don't think I've ever been there, but I've never found a Vauxhall that I like.

It's strange really. Because you have Reigate just down the road, which is infinitely more better then RH will ever be.

Newbury

Local town for local people kind of place. God forbid you try and go into one of the pubs there without all eyes turning in your direction.

Aldershot

The town where all hopes goes to die. If Britain ever needs an enema, this will be the place to administer it.

No! Winsford must stay.

It exists to make people in Northwich feel normal.

If post these covid times I ever loose my day job I'm going to set up a podiatrist in Winsford as with those extra toes they have I'll be able to charge a higher rate.

Technically I believe Winsford was designed by Cheshire council to appear on the face of it almost as respectable as the three 'witches' (Northwich, Nantwich, Middlewich) and then they have built it up massively (and still are doing) with Chav affordable bland cheap housing to keep the council tax as high as possible elsewhere in Cheshire. "County Chav kettling" I have heard Winsfords purpose to be! It is a bit like "Waterworld" just without the sea around it but the confusing ring road of bland prevents to many inhabitants escaping.
