I like fireworks and I love the large displays.

But these days with cats and dogs who hate them I wish people would just go to "proper" displays and not hold them around the streets.
We do fireworks once a year, in the garden, not on the streets.

Every day I walk to my car I have to avoid dog st on the pavement.

Now, I'm not saying that you are the sort of person who fails to clean up after his pooch, but I have to deal with this every day. So, for one night of the year surely they can be locked inside for a few hours?

I also have the joy of a mad dog that lives near the place I park my car, who tries to attack me through the fence everyday. I don't mind this as dogs are dogs. But I'm a man and I feel all manly when I light up my next flash bang rocket. So the dog can fk off and let me have my moment smile !

We have two rabbits who are safely locked up in the kitchen on Guy Fawkes night (well they live in the kitchen actually), so I can sort of understand the anxiety of being a pet owner at this time of year.

This. It's not like it's every night of the year. Can't wait until my lad's old enough to appreciate fire and explosions.

Indeed, and whilst I'm sure the whole having fiends over, jacket potatoes yadda yadda is jolly nice, as a visual display all garden ones are piss poor, last 20 seconds and are probably as satisfying as a premature ejaculation.
Is that right? Check out my piss poor catherine wheel, I'm sure that will be good enough for 7-11 year olds.

You can check out the stuff underneath it and to the right to get an idea of the rest of the stuff.

As for dogs, we have one and so I chose quiet ones this year. And yes, no spells it is the Brightspark

I get all my fireworks from Phoenix, they are very good, see here why

I don't mind them if it is only one or two nights, but what really pisses me off is the three week long bonfire night, with random fireworks at all hours of the day and night... Our dogs hate the bloody things!

Happy to manage the situation for one or two nights though thumbup

As a change to most years, this year I've heard ONE firework being let off before tonight... Don't know what's changed, but it's great! And I love fireworks - but they need to be on Nov 5th (or the Saturday after...)

Anyhows, I'm just going out to light mine off! Yay!!! biggrin

I know where you are coming from, it's a bit like Christmas stretching out till October. If it actually falls on a Saturday it does limit it to 2 days to some extent, but mid week it could be either weekend.

Also, as I said above, if you know where to buy you can get quiet ones if you have pets, but people just tend to either not care and want the sounds or have to make do with packs which do a bit of everything.

The recession I fear to some extent. You can't really justify burning money in this current climate of course. Hope you enjoy it biggrin

Ours has been rained off.

Happening on monday now, and if it's raining again then the fireworks get destroyed.

I'm watching the Brockham fireworks from the garden of a neighbour's house, since up here in the land of Billy-Bob FM, we're far too pikey to buy our own.

Cheers Andy mate! thumbup

Well, it was kinda a mixed bag... The box was 18 fireworks for £18, and for the first time I can remember, two failed to ignite. frown Usually Chinese fireworks are pretty damn reliable. One that failed was a tiny little piddly thing, but one was a decent sized roman candle... frown And the two miniature catharine wheels were too weak to spin, even though they were very loosely nailed on to the post. Not clever. At least the big C.W. (£5) was very very good and lasted ages!! biggrin

And the Devil's Delight at the end for a big finish was great, all gentle little roman candle whoooshes, then pop pop pop, BANG BANG BANG!!!! biggrin

Strange about the catherine wheel, did you put the nail in so it was lower at the head than the point? If you put them above horizontal the forces may make it slide to the bottom and get stuck? Or was the nail too thick?

Glad the rest of the stuff was in the main ok though, two duds is a bit unlucky. If you had a bonfire you could have thrown them on that and then run for cover. Ladies present would not have been amused at that sort of antic though. biggrin

Bonfire night is definitely a lads thing isn't it? We ought to do a PH meet next year and just set loads off, rather than coffee and cars, it would be bangers and bangers. Well, mine is ...

I have been inside all night, curtains drawn, tv on loud.

I'm not keen on loud bangs when caused by anything explosive

Edited due to my burnt fingers hitting the wrong keys!!

I actually didnt go to a display tonight , pretty much as you have to go into surrounding towns and such to watch them up close.

Pub was a much wiser idea (Y)

Watched the fireworks in Aberdeen from a ship anchored about 2 miles from the coast.

Very pleasant to watch the main display at the beach and see all the smaller displays across the city's skyline.

Would have been nice to have a drink too, but it's a dry boat. frown

Let us all take a moment to remember just what we are celebrating tonight. A Failed plot to blow up parliment. I think Guy Fawkles must have been a petrolhead.
Never really understood how you can celebrate a guy who trys to destroy your government ....... Unless the government then was being run the same way as it is now in the UK and on this side of the pond... Then I understand.

Me and the misses are off to brockham again this year. She loves it there. I’m still a little bit sour after getting stuck in a field for the best past of an hour and some youngsters breaking the boot spoiler off the car trying to push me out.

It was a nightmare, just a field of RWD cars waiting to get rescued. Hoping to borrow the parents freelander this time

Aye, the head of the nail was lower, the nail was thin enough, and a test by hand showed it span freely. The problem was it didn't produce enough thrust to make it turn! Daft....
The big C.W. made up for it though, a diameter of about 2 meters, lovely wooshing noises and it lasted a good 2 minutes! Yay! thumbup
