I had that toy telephone as a baby.
They still make them, I'm going to get one for my daughter next week.

Now, if I ever have a son :

(Sorry for going off topic, but the garage is *kind* of old and abandoned wink)

I had one of those Fisher Price garages. Together with Matchbox cars, thats how this absurd motor thing started. I'm sure I'm not alone.

I'm going to be a Dad in November, so I'm looking at the 21st century replacement. There is one with two-count em! two ramps.

Anyway, we're going wildly off topic. Does anyone have a micro camera? Taking shots of a fisher price garage in dim light and posting it on 28dl as a "lost: multi storey" might be good fun...!

ETA - I'm pretty sure it was Newton, simply because the more I see on UrbEx websites, the more looks familiar. I especially recognise this sort of thing from his snapshots:

And seeing things like this left behind really freaked him out:

It seems it's been fairly well covered by other UrbExers, must've been terrifying at night, and apparently is now being flattened to make way for a new housing development.
Cock Womble should recognise these pics as I'm pretty sure RAF Newton is where the RAF Police were trained.
that last picture of a 9mm casing is from a simmunition round which fires coloured soap at about 50m for marksman training. only safety eqipment required is for the eyes and yes it does sting. bring on the simmuntion dance!

yes And me. Still have lots of Matchbox & Hotwheels cars, but sadly that garage is long since gone.

Who else had the Matchbox suitcase to store all their cars?
I had this:

Also had that garage - thinking back really hard, I actually think it might've been my first toy.

+1!
+2, have you got any more info on the place?
Thanks all! Unfortunately not- I've got a photo of the station with the town name on it somewhere, I'll have to dig it out. It's in the heart of the Atacama Desert, and for a brief period about 100 years ago they had a gold rush. Nearby is a graveyard full of Dutch and German prospectors, most under 25, who often spent more time crossing the Atlantic than they did actually mining for gold. the tour I did was a backpacker one rather than a Kuoni-type and I think the only reason we went there was because the tour guide or driver was a mate of the station manager, it's not open to the public as the railway next to it is still used.
That'd be great if you can find the name of the town, I can at least track it down on Google Earth then smile
Google is your friend. Baquedano, Chile.
you can see why the trains are so well preserved:

Pictures of some abandoned Silver mines in the Sierra Almagrera near Los Lobos in SE Spain.

A large vein of silver was discovered here in the 1840s. Los Lobos owing it's existence from the influx of miners.
As time went on the mines however were prone to flooding as the vein ran its way deeper and deeper, and it was a constant battle over the years.
We had heard of some shafts and pumping gear in the hills and decided to see if we could find them.

Quite a trek up.

Lots of open shafts.... a long way down.

Found the pumping station.

And it was manufactured in Reading!!

These mines were eventually abandoned in the late 1940s.
It's amazing to see how it's been preserved due to the dry/arid weather in the Almeria region.
A view across the Sierra

Anyone want to get a rowing boat and some cameras?...

It was either this fort or http://www.amazingretreats.com/spitbankfort/ Spitbank fort that my friends dad bought quite a few years back and turned it in to a luxury bond style pad. You can stay on Spitbank fort according to that website.
the pictured fort is the one in the article: No mans land fort

this is Spitbank:

taken from a harbour cruise a few years back - around that time Spitbank had a restaurant on it you could go out to for sunday lunches...
That freaks me out!!

Abandoned lighthouse in the jungle:

View from the hilltop:

Had to get past the gatekeeper:

The structure:

The doorway:

The staircase:

This place had a really creepy feel about it - an old lighthouse abandoned, swallowed by jungle, very difficult to find, at the top of a hill on an island, so hot and humid you could practically drink the air, very quiet except for the distant roar of the surf on a reef, and full of Very Large spiders.

Fantastic.

Occasionally you see photographs of places that you will never see - this is one of those moments! Great that you've been there and can share it on 'tweb. smile
