A turbine in the mothballed Inverkip Power Station
Scotland first oil-fired power station. Opened just in time for the 1973 oil crisis
Looks like a set from a computer game.Scotland first oil-fired power station. Opened just in time for the 1973 oil crisis

Is that HDR?
Both images came from a Google images search and the originals have "enhanced" in their filenames.

The lighthouse is amazing.
Although you wouldn't get me in it, mind.
Must admit I didn't climb up inside it either - I was on my own and could just imagine the iron door clanging shut and me being stuck inside...! Although you wouldn't get me in it, mind.

Not so much mothballed as partially stripped, the useful bits flogged and the rest left to rot; they started demolishing the oil storage tanks at Inverkip a while back, presumably the turbine hall and the boiler house will follow. Lord knows what they'll do with the chimney; if they knock it down into the sea I'd like to be there to see the splash!Scotland first oil-fired power station. In the process of being demolished now, though up to fairly recently it was mothballed in such a way that it could be brought online in a very short space of time.Scotland first oil-fired power station. Opened just in time for the 1973 oil crisis

I can't see this on any of the last few pages so hopefully not a repost. There's a house for sale near Aberdeen with an interesting "basement".
Looks fairly normal on approach
Inside is also pretty traditional
However, the interesting stuff is in the basement......

I can't even find the words to describe just how much I want that place!! I could fairly easily get it too......
However, SWMBO, in her additional role as the 'voice of reason', is unlikely to agree....
I recently went to view an incredible former Navy mine-sweeper, and within the first few seconds of viewing, knew it was way beyond my capabilities of re-design (I'm in the process of selling a London-based houseboat and looking for another in the south-coast area). Dismissed it straight away, but I was totally intrigued as the ship (it wasn't a "boat" by my standards), gave me heebeegeebees, and I had to explore. The whole vessel had a really creepy feel, and would make a fantastic set for a horror film IMHO, but the engine room had a sinister life of it's own. My photographic skills are somewhat crappy, but hope you enjoy...
Engine Room:
Creepy, creepy cabin in bow:
Flash has ruined the real ambiance: the vessel is massive, but sooooo claustrophobic! Hope the seller isn't a PHer, LOL!

Hmmm, is that last picture the lounge? Bit cramped I'd say - as for the rest, nothing some furniture and a lick of paint wouldn't fix, right?
I shudder to think of what kind of money houseboats in London would go for these days (depending on exact location) - probably just a tad too rich for my blood.
