Must admit I didn't climb up inside it either - I was on my own and could just imagine the iron door clanging shut and me being stuck inside...! eek
Feck.

That would be beyond scary.

I recently went to view an incredible former Navy mine-sweeper, and within the first few seconds of viewing, knew it was way beyond my capabilities of re-design (I'm in the process of selling a London-based houseboat and looking for another in the south-coast area). Dismissed it straight away, but I was totally intrigued as the ship (it wasn't a "boat" by my standards), gave me heebeegeebees, and I had to explore. The whole vessel had a really creepy feel, and would make a fantastic set for a horror film IMHO, but the engine room had a sinister life of it's own. My photographic skills are somewhat crappy, but hope you enjoy...

Engine Room:

Creepy, creepy cabin in bow:

Flash has ruined the real ambiance: the vessel is massive, but sooooo claustrophobic! Hope the seller isn't a PHer, LOL!
What was the ship originally named, do you know? Looks like a 'Ton' class.

certainly looks like a pair of Napier Deltics, so either a 'Ton', or a 'Hunt' which is just a plastic 'Ton' anyway.

Is there an abandoned railway underneath all of that?

I wonder how old the loco is?

At a guess i'd say thats just a boiler that was discarded at the end of it's useful life. Looks to be off something of 3ft gauge or less, and it's not superheated, so something pre-1920 probably.

Where abouts is it?

Here's another bit to it, presumably went underneath the boiler?

Was apparently used to haul ore from a mine. There are bits of old track here and there too.

Makes a pleasant change from anti-personnel mines and venomous snakes.

This was taken up the top of Charlottes Pass in ACT, Australia, around 2000metres up in the snowy mountains. I think it might be some kind of machinery used in the construction of the road up there, just sitting out in the middle of nowhere.

Bumpage!!

Just a couple of 'urban explores' I have done:

Farleigh Down tunnel:

Trashed...

Graffiti from 1937...

Hellingly Mental Asylum - not a place for the faint hearted after dark...

The main hall:

The salon...

Graffiti

Room with lots of plants...

Severalls Mental Asylum - I adore this place. The size of a small housing estate, all abandoned, beautiful natural decay...

Watertower

View from the top (just one side - there's three more sides of equal amounts of buildings!)

Cells

RAF Yatesbury

I've also visited a derelict hotel, a Little Chef, a couple of old artillery placements and two ROC posts.

Fantastic. I;d love to go, but I would scare myself silly before stepping foot into those places

And I really hate the graffiti. There is a certain amount of beauty in decay. Why ruin the ruins?

They're not too bad to walk around in, unless it's dark! biggrin Although, with Severalls, it's so big there can be several people there at the same time as you and you wouldn't know. The first time I went there, we kept hearing the doors bang in front of us, and no matter how much we tried to keep up with this 'phantom' door slammer, we couldn't find them!

I hate the pointless graffiti too - I don't understand it either. Although some stuff is pretty incredible. Bored youths with nothing else to do but make a nuisance of themselves. These places are trashed because of vandals, unfortunately not many people appreciate them and how beautiful they can be! Hellingly is beautiful - pulled down now, unfortunately!

The 1937 grafitti includes a half-drawn Spitfire, a year before they were produced.

Chances of me exploring a deserted lunatic asylum, even in sunny broad daylight: absolutely none!!
