I've been asked to join the Freemasons
Discussion
Morning all
Yesterday we had a first degree. Not carried out by myself, but by the candidates proposer, all went very well. However, we were joined by 7 guests who arrived at grand lodge asking if there were any meetings on that they could attend as guests. So we had 5 Norwegian brethren, and a brother from Staffordshire, along with his Australian friend who was on holiday over here. They also stayed for the festive board as well which made for a great night.
The other thing that made it special, is that they were all members of founding lodges of their country. Very good evening had by all.
Now on summer recess til September, not much of a recess for me as I have a second degree to learn ready for October, and then we're back round to installation in January. And that's my year in the chair done.

We have one more meeting before recess, but it's open and close then head down the road for a curry.
I need to learn the third degree, but we're unlikely to do one this year with the other things we have planned. They've already asked me to stay in the chair for a second year, too, so it'll be December 2017 when I leave office, unless we get dispensation for a hat-trick. That could work, as the SW next year was a joining member, and he wants to take the chair in his own Lodge first. I've been mentoring our current SD, so three in a row from me would see me installing him.
I'll have to try and do something for the tercentenary, and perhaps our own 260th.

Well this has been a quick year.
My year in the chair has 2 meeting left then i stand down for our recent master-elect. Fantastic year, i've shaken hands with some fantastic people, met more people of great standing than i can count and overall had a brilliant year in office with a decent amount raised for our nominated charity.
Hope everyone is keeping on keeping on!

Likewise here.
My first year in the chair is technically over, installation being our next meeting. Staying put, as expected, so we have a much shortened installation ceremony with only the officers to be invested.
260th anniversary in January and a 50th certificate for a long absent member, also initiating an old school friend. Another 50th certificate in February for a brother that is still a brother. Very regular attendee but never felt inclined to progress. Yet another 50th certificate in March for one of our GL brethren. PGM is turning up for that one.
Should be a good start to the year.
Built a new website for the lodge, too. Old one was very tired. www.palatine97.org , for anyone interested.

IPM is the job I found hardest! Thank goodness my Master at the time was great!
Was exalted last week. Wow - what a lovely ceremony!
I found Tyler the worst, which we do straight after IPM. It's a cold, lonely task in my lodge, even when we were doing doubles. Was exalted last week. Wow - what a lovely ceremony!

Is the Masonic similar to the Orange Order? Tons of Masonic members in NI are also members of the OO.
No, absolutely not. While the satsumas might base elements of their lodge structure on Freemasonry, I would argue that their principles are in direct conflict with those of Freemasonry. All men are equal, and we do not discriminate based on a person's religious beliefs, as these are never discussed. I'd struggle to see how any true FM could be a member of the OO. Davie_GLA said:
I really need to get more Scottish brethren on this thread!
We visited Newcastle upon Tyne lodge 24 on Friday for their installation. Great day and night.
Add one more to the list then, Bro. We visited Newcastle upon Tyne lodge 24 on Friday for their installation. Great day and night.
KM482 is my mother lodge but I moved away. Haven't been to a meeting in a few years.
Installed as IG for the first time just before Christmas, new WM brought ten of his lodge members from the Welsh valleys to see his install, boy they can drink afterward!
Got LOIs coming up and need to prepare for a 3rd in February and then my oldest mate' 1st in April. Another 3rd in September makes a busy year for us. Loving every minute of it though, great to get my first step on the ladder as it were after pouring wine at the FB for a year!
FR to all.

For all of the PMs, how did you cope?
I've been active in the lodge since joining in January 2010, taking my first office as IG at our December installation and moving up the ladder every year since, up until our last meeting where I stayed in the Chair.
There is a very high probability I'll be dropped straight in to DoC, but do you not feel like a bit of a spare part once you're no longer WM; everything you've been working towards over?
I've discussed it with a few members my own lodge and they, almost to a man, were relieved when their year was over. The main exceptions being those that have gone on to do work with the province.

Went to Great Queens Street on Monday for a look around (from North Wales, so first visit). Due to the tube strike they had a skeleton staff, so couldn't get a tour. However, very helpful chap showed us the Temple - WOW!
Then on to Duke Street for 30th in Rose Croix. What a ceremony!
Enjoy the 300th celebrations.
