I don't get sad if when watching a film there is a negative part, why would I when reading a cartoon?

It is just another day another cartoon.
You find fiction unaffecting?

No empathy at all?

How strange. And a little sad.

I enjoy reading, but no. It's not real, so doesn't really get me emotional.

Why is this sad?
For me, it was the wonderful imagination of a little boy that could take himself outside the realms of reality and with his best friend, have adventures as a number of different characters. Calvin was also extremely blunt when it came to stating the truth about certain scenarios - he cut through the crap and saw everything in black and white as often a child does.

The fact that the strip mentions pills to curb his activities shows that society will do what ever it takes to control and average everyone out.

It is the death of ideas and creativity.

Just my take - written quickly.

I believe you can take poigniant commentary, regardless of the delivery mechanism, and be moved by art (and a cartoon can be as valid, and often far more direct, than usual forms of intellectual art) otherwise, what was the point.

A personal view of mine.

Really. I'd be interested.
This is the second time someone has told me I should get checked for Autism.

I have, I am not.

I wish people would learn a bit more about Autism before branding someone without the knowledge.

It doesn't matter that it's fake, really.

It's still a little sad.
I agree. I can't believe it's real but it touches a nerve nevertheless.

Before you get saddle sore to add to the altitude sickness, I didn't suggest you should get checked. A component of that test looks at responses to fiction and ability to relate to the characters therein.

I was genuinely interested how you would score, given what you had stated on this thread.

You have no knowledge of my understanding or personal experience with Autism so I'm hoping your final statement was a general wish rather than directed.

Well why if you have any knowledge point someone to that quiz? As let's be honest it isn't a test.

So the score is irrelevant.

I'm surprised to agree that it is extremely sad frown

I'm sure all boys have been Captain Spiff or wanted to transmogrify themselves at some point.
Blimey, if you call yourself a fan you should know it's Spaceman Spiff. Sheesh wink

This is sad, although fake. Everyone knows that the last thing Calvin ever said was 'Let's go exploring' in the 'It's a Magical World' title.

I love Calvin and Hobbes, everyone should have a read at least once.

I've got most of the C&H books - I did try to get hold of a few first editions, but they were somewhat cost-prohibitive...

I always wanted a transmogrifier - Still do hehe

This cartoon has made me want to dig out all my C&H books - in fact, tonight, I think I will - if not to at least drive this cartoon out of my head...

Where did you find the first editions? Are they hardback?

My mum picked most of mine up from charity shops when we were poor people.
