Great idea until some muppet hits a pylon or the power lines. Very cool up to a point.

Has to be practically useless for civilian applications.

If you're in a densely populated area you wouldn't be allowed to use it.

If you're in a sparsely populated area it would be quicker to use a car.

Fun-wise, it surely couldn't be more fun than one of those Red Bull racing planes.

..and a wing for added lift. And then somewhere comfy to sit, with space for luggage. And an enclosed canopy for better aerodynamics. And wheels for high speed landings.

Rather good, that....

I'm off to strap the Dyson to my back...

Everything forward, and trust in the lord...

Edit...

Anybody got a really long extension lead...?

Thats okay, by the time they have all bought jetpacks, the roads will all be empty, so i can go play on them instead. And if they arent, and i have to contend with thick jetpack pilots, then thats what shotguns are forshoot

I wouldn't be leaving the house with god knows how many jet pack pilots falling out the sky it would be a nightmare.

Seriously, that really is a very good solution to personal transportation.
Really? Think how many people travel to work each day either in their own car or on the bus. Now imagine that same amount of people jostling for air space. No lane markings or traffic lights up there!

Fun as a weekend toy, but as a replacement for regular transport, I doubt it.
Jet backs are old news! Ever seen Thunderball?biggrin One of the reasons that people in the 60s weren't zipping everywhere like the Jetsons was the fact it could only hold fuel for 30 odd seconds, and was therefore frakking uselessbiggrin.
From what I remember, there is only one of those old jetpacks still in existence.

I'm sure it would be great to own one, get your friends and family round to watch your inaugural flight straight back into terra firma. hehe

I'm not sure how much they think a motorbike costs (they clasim the Martin Jetpack will be "about the same as a high end motorcycle) but I just received this....

Dear Mark,

Many thanks for your interest in the Martin Jetpack.

We estimate the initial sale price to be US$100,000 and we plan to take first orders in 2011.

If you would like to be added to our list of prospective purchasers please let me know and we will notify you when we are ready to go into production

I'd put it last on the list, or you may not get some of them done.

hundred thousand dollars for one of these strikes me as a bargain personally. I have also registered an interest and will be seriously trying to get one....

The 'you wont be allowed to use it' is interesting.....you'll be too small to show up on anything below milspec radar....and you're prob too slow for that too. I know you'd get spotted floating around but what they gonna do about it? personally i would plan not to actually bother mentioning it to anyone in officialdom.......and take my chances!

the price will also keep the retard count low hopefully (excepting myself of course!)
