We've got another dog needing a home, a very friendly 13month old collie called Ben

He's very friendly with people and kids, and seems comfortable with other dogs. The reason that he needs a home is that he is typically hyper as a collie, and won't return if he either is let off the lead or escapes, which his present owner can no longer deal with. He was taken on by her as a puppy when the farmerr who bred him wanted him put to sleep as he appeared blind, although this has now completely resolved.

Anyone who's interested, please email me, but bear in mind that the problems I've mentioned, thanks for any help.

Can't this person stick with it and get some help training doggy?

It's not like a marriage/relationship you can't just give up! Work at it.

Unfortunately not, we've suggested a behaviourist, but her personal situation is such that it just doesn't look like working. I'm disappointed that it's not going to work but Ben would be better off with someone who can give the time and exercise needed.

If I was allowed to have a dog in my rented house I would pick him up tomorrow!! My parents went through similar problems with their boxer, very hyper, chews everything and fights for freedom harder than mel gibson. He's still a pain in the arse for chewing things but is alot better on the lead thanks to abit of time and patience.

Something tells me volunteering for another one would leave me in lots of trouble!

Mind you Collies are usually trainable unlike Beagles, who seem to be able to block out sounds when escaping!

Ironically this post was thread was parked right above his for a while.
I'm not excusing the request for rehoming, it is sad and disappointing, I'm trying to arrange a better life for the dog who doesn't want to be an indoor rug, it was against my recommendation that the pup was taken originally, but he has turned out to be too much of a handful for the owner, I think that in a different situation he should be much happier.

Would love to help out and take on Ben but currently, i just don't think i would be able to give the him the time he so desperately requires, but looks like a lovely dog, and whoever collects him is very lucky

Good luck Thevet. My work has just taken on an 11yr old jrt (O' died) the girls have tried to persuade me to have him (my parents took on the last elderly rescue dog we had!) but not going to happen, what with a 7wk old newborn to look after!! I already have 1 dog (who'd actually love a doggy companion) and 3 cats...they'd not be so keen.

He's a great looking dog and I'm sure has loads of potential.

Have to smile or one would cry! The most entertaining feature is that when I get home from work in the evening theres a race between the Beagle and my daughter to get to be first for a cuddle, which really annoys my wife as she always feeds the Beagle and often walks her, but gets ignored when she comes in the front door!

For anyone thinking about taking on this dog the OP offers excellent after care being there to answer questions etc, and regularly seeks updates.

I'm assuming the dog's in Scotland as per your profile?

If so a bit far to see if he would get on with my current Collie frown

Good luck.

You're very kind, which unfortunately is of no use in this situation, but you're stories always give me and the other beagle-carers alot of laughs, as they reflect so many dog stories. I would love to see Kiera again, even if to see if she was protective of her pack, very glad you took her and have given her a great home.

Yes I'm in scotland but if you are vaguely suited and interested, I would be happy to take a run to see if there's hope, however, send me an email if you are serious.

Sadly, all too many people give up when the going gets tough. It's one of the reasons why one of our rescued dogs has had about 4 homes - well, at least now he's got a home for life.
