Really really bad.
There are many Gillettes though... the 7 o'clock sharp edge are pretty good IMO.

Something i've just thought about is disposing of these blades. For a cartridge i'd just bin it but I guess it's a bit of a problem for the open blades. Do you guys just put the blades in an old pack or something?
Put them in an Altoids tin. When it is full put it in the steel recycle at the dump.

Gillette DE blades are made in many factories around the world, India for instance and even Vietnam. Each factory then makes a range of different brands. The Indian factory even makes Wilkinson Sword blades for India.

But out of all the factories Petersburgh Products International (PPI) make what are considered to be the finest blades. Not only that, there are differences between all the different brands of DE blades that they make there. Even the Gilette 7 O'Clock comes in different versions in different coloured packaging. It is the yellow packed ones that I like.

One thing with considering is the Shavepocolypse, the day when the marketing people have weaned the whole world onto cartridge and DE blades cease to be produced. Against this it is worth stocking up a few thousand blades. I have enough to last my lifetime.

When Iridium were discontinued it was a wakeup call. Many people wished they had stockpiled a couple of thousand. When PPI cease DE production, which they surely will, it will be a sad day for traditional shaving.

I wonder how many blades would make a lifetimes' supply?

I use two a week. That's 104 a year. Let's say 20 years of shaving (I'm 50) that's 2,080 blades. 10 cost £3.95 which would cost £821 for 2,080.

I'll pass!

Have to say, yet again, that the Gillette 7's are a pretty bad blade for me too. And my pack are from the PPI factory.

Really want to try the Iridium's, is no one carrying any sort of stock?

Here is a forum thread about the most common fakes with lots of photographs: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/188454...

It is a pity that the eBay picture is just of the pack front, because that is where there is the least difference. So last night I sat down with the eBay picture on my screen and both fake and real packs in front of me and compared the three in detail. On the balance of probabilities I would say that these are more likely to be real than to be fake.

Also for those in search of the holy grail of the perfect DE razor blade there is the Personna 74. The ultimate steel razor blade and universally recognised as such. But incredibly rare and dwindling rapidly as what is left get used. They now attract very silly prices indeed. Ideal for the bankers on here who want another way to affirm their status. The good thing that helps justify their price is that one blade can easily last a month!

Something of a side benefit to all of this. For most of my adult life I have suffered with a bit of psoriasis on my cheeks. Doc didnt have much of a suggestion to cure it, and I always thought it was linked to the seasons and stress levels. For most of my adult life I have also wet shaved, using products which are apparently the best a man can get. Since I started using a DE razor earlier this year, and tried half a dozen different soaps and creams, none of which are the best a man can get, the psoriasis seems to have cleared up! I will see how it goes through winter, but it does make me suspect there is something nasty in those aerosol products.

I am amazed that anyone buys these aerosols, you are mostly buying water and the list of ingredients is pretty grim.

There are many craft manufacturers of shaving creams/soaps who only use the purest and finest ingredients.
MWF was created because of the observed beneficial dermatological effect of wool fat.
And ToBS reformulated to get rid of parabens.

Using traditional brush and soap/cream is much cheaper and healthier than using aerosols. It is also far more luxurious, gives a better shave (because the brush preps the stubble) and is far better for the environment.

Aerosol lathers are the devil's spawn.

However, millions of pounds/dollars is spent marketing it so it's no great surprise we (the public) fall for it.

Yep try selling the (expensive) brush & soap concept to a spotty 16 year old who has the telibox informing him that he can be as good as Tiery Henry/Tiger Wodds/Tennis Player if he buys a cheap multiblade razor (cheaper to buy a handle with 2 or 3 blades than a replacement pack of blades) and cheap associated products (a can of shave goo is less than £3 last time I looked).

And a Palmolive shaving stick, which is one of the best shaving soaps out there, is under 50p at Asda and will last much longer.

Yep but palmolive is a old ladies deo/soap brand not the sort of thing a 16 year old lad is going to be wanting to associate with.

Wet your stubble. Rub the shaving stick all over your face like a big crayon. Wet your brush and apply to your face, till you have a great lather.
American shaving enthusiast visiting the UK fill their suitcases up with Palmolive sticks because they are such a legend. They are a currency that can be swapped with Americans for American stuff in the post.
They are a perfect part of the travelling traditional shaving kit. And they cost twice as much in Tescos as they do in Asda.
