I'm not so sure. I have a Futur and it can't be denied it's a very nice razor with great weight and adjust-ability but i just find it a bit too cumbersome. Especially under the nose and around the chin.

The vintage Gillette 'slim' and 'fatboy' have a butterfly opening, adjustment and are small enough to manoeuvre accurately.

I've been getting some great, simple 2 pass (WTG/ATG) shaves using my DE89 & Gillette 7 o'clock blacks the last couple of weeks.
I also bought some Wilkinson Sword shaving soap for about £2.50 in Salisbury's. Pretty good stuff, actually. Very slick & lathers really well with my Muhle synthetic brush. The main compromise over much more expensive creams & soaps seems to be the scent. The Wilkinson's smells like cheap 1980's aftershave.

I tried a lot of blades of the years.
Whilst of course everyone's different, here's a spreadsheet I made a couple of years ago to keep track of everything....

This
That. Feels great though.

No love for the slant bar here?

Only one I use now and get the best results from easily.

I've been using Gillette sensor twin blades for decades, but most high street places have stopped selling them
Have a supply via Amazon

Anything similar on the High Street?
I don't want the latest 10 blade monstrosities as I don't have a square head & have a nose..

Heads up, airport security took my razor blades. Darned annoying after I've had no problem taking them on flights for many years.

Uggggg....

I think this has been mentioned before - I think blades have to go into the hold.

Which airport? I've never tried taking mine though security as I always thought it was a big no no.

Best way is something like a Nix styptic pencil.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NIX-STYPTIC-PENCIL-5G-ST...
Before you use it, dampen a cloth & dab away the excess blood so you can see the cut. Moisten the tip of the pencil and quickly hold on the cut for about 10 seconds whilst there is little blood coming out of it.
Always works for me. smile

Have you tried smearing with vaseline quickly, once dabbed dry?

BRS (Bristol). No issue in January on a flight to Lanzarote but pulled me to one side and emptied my luggage. They didn't know/say(?) what they were looking for but confiscated the loaded blade and a spare in plastic dispenser. irked

I've ended up using a single bladed razor and shaving soap of late. I find multi-bladed ones ps off my skin for some reason.

BUMP.
Why is that on the right side of my face it doesn't matter how much I shave it always feels rough and yet the left side feels so smooooooth?

Still enjoying the DE life biggrin

Bought a new Wilkinson sword brush and shaving soap/pot the other day, all good.

I have stopped doing all of the passes though, whether that's laziness, the fact I didn't notice a difference between doing several passes, and just 2, i.e down, then up, or a mixture of both I don't know.

Either way, will stick with it, find it less of a chore now which is what I found when using the cartridge types...

So if anyone sees any good deals on decent model razors in the future, give me a nudge, as I think I will spend a bit more next time, now I'm a DE convert smile

I use one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alum-Stone-100-Natural-D...

Dip it in water and hold it against the cut for a minute, seems to work a treat.

+1. I use an Alum block and it stops cuts very quickly. In addition, it doesn't leave any visible residue like the styptic pencil does.

Alternatively, just don't cut yourself. winktongue out
