Yep.
This is astonishingly good.

I've used quite a few badger brushes before & spent up to £50 on some of them.
TBH the Big Bruce pisses all over them from a great height & can be had for less than £20 delivered.

Synthetics have more 'backbone' than badger, by and large, and I like the way that they can work the lather on the face.

I agree. I use a Muhle synthetic brush and find it way better than their badger hair offering (which has started shedding loads recently).

Can’t beat a badger though surely. 😂

I have a Simpsons pure badger, it is my least used brush, it just flops when lathered up and just needs backbone to it, my synthetic brushes are much better.

There is also the ethical aspect of supporting some brutal farming practices in China in buying badger brushes. Many of the cosmetic brush manufacturers have made the switch from badger to synthetic.

An old idea is to soak the brush in water with a few drops of shampoo and leave it in the fridge for a few days.

You may also want to try and get some split ends to the brush to make it fluffy. (that's one word I never thought I would use on PH)

But............The Body Shop sells a really good shaving brush for £8. I think i would take the easy route.

I've had it soaking in waking up liquid for the last four days. I rinsed it off to try the pet shampoo, seems ok.
So I'm giving it another few days with more washing up liquid. Just to be fecking sure.

What soaps/ creams are you all using?

So far:

Mitchell's Wool Fat. Very good lather/ lubrication, skin feels great after a shave. Neutral scent of plain soap.

Tabac. Almost as good - and a really nice floral scent

Arko. Definitely feels more drying than the other two. Very strong "barbershop" scent. Very cheap and convenient for travel.

The best pure shaving soap is the Mitchell's, but my favourite to use is the Tabac because of the smell of it.

Cella, an Italian shaving soap, inexpensive and lasts a long time

Palmolive shaving stick, works well and is cheap, i bought a lot when i heard they were stopping production.

Taylor of Bond Street, a few tubs of this, a prestige shaving cream, good to use.

If I had to suggest just one, I would say buy Cella, one tub will last a year.

That would explain why I can't find any frown When did that happen and is Palmolive continuing to produce the tubes of cream (haven't seen any locally for a while)?

All of these are worth a punt. All perform really well. My faves are..

Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements - Dapper Doc's (amazing scent)
Signature Soaps - Capra goat's milk
OSP - Barbershop
Phoenix & Beau - Sanskrit
Phoenix & Beau - Imperial Rum (again, amazing scent)
Phoenix & Beau - Trafalgar
Whickam Soaps - 1912 Club Cola

About 3 years ago I asked on a shaving forum about the shaving stick, I thought it was an odd product in the Palmolive range and had heard that production might stop. The forum experts said this was rubbish. When I was in a Wilko store there was about 20 of these sticks on the shelf on sale at 75p.

Like yourself, I cannot find any of the sticks locally now, nor the cream, but I don't know if production has stopped or not. The shaving cream is available on Morrisons online shopping so I presume availability is much easier.

I have only tried a few but I like the regular Wilkinson Swords one. Was blue now black tub, just has a nice smell to it.

I’ve tried loads of soaps and creams. Now I nearly always use this. £1 a tube from the ‘bodycare’ shop in town.

Cella performs really well & is good value for a tallow-based soap.
I just found the smell a bit ott in terms of sweetness. If you like really sweet almond/cherry smells, then this is for you.
Also, my soap started getting dark pock-marks after about 6 months and apparently this is quite common. It seems the mixture isn't perhaps as stable as it could be.

I mainly use Proraso soaps - both the sensitive and moisturizing ones.

I'll also use the Taylor of Old Bond Street sandlewood shaving soap from time to time.

Don't bother with the regular soaps, get the special editions, they're quite different.

I found it irritates my skin. Vitos, a similar product, doesn't have that problem and doesn't smell as strongly.

These days I use Lea, both in the puck and stick versions. Haslinger is also good.
