Multi-blade razors
Discussion
For any head shavers, I have been trying out the Leaf Razor:
https://agentshave.co.uk/leaf-shave-razor/
A weird hybrid cartridge/safety razor cross over. Acts and feels like a disposable razor in which you insert single edge (or double edge snapped in half) blades.
I tried head shaving with a DE razor and cut myself to pieces and realised even if i could learn the process it would take way to long. The leaf razor so far is as quick as a disposable, very sharp and so far in 3 shaves with Derby extra blades, no cuts or irritation at all. Still need to find the best blade/setting combo but as I think it could be a little more aggressive but I feel this could be my new head shaver for some time.
A bit pricey for a razor but will make that back by not having to buy disposables in less than a year.

On the subject of Feather is the AS-D2S really as good as the reviews (I heistate to say worth it)
Looking for a new razor to keep long term
In short, yes. I've had one for several years, always used Feather blades, and never found the need for anything else.Looking for a new razor to keep long term
Eh - for me, not so keen on feathers. Don’t seem to keep edge as well as cheaper blades. Yes, for a couple of shaves they are sharper but as I have a soft beard, doesn’t matter for me. I use Dorco/ Astra SP and Menora (the last seem to last forever - I end up changing them after a couple of weeks out of boredom)

The reason that Feathers are ultra-sharp when new, but tend to "go off" after about three shaves is that they are triple-honed, as opposed to the majority of blades, which are double-honed.The Feather AS-D1 and subsequent Feather razors are "mild", and don't present the blade at an aggressive angle. The Feather razors are designed for Feather blades, unsurprisingly.
Hope that helps.
Interesting, thanks. I use a relatively more aggressive razor (Muhle Rocco) so probably why it pairs better with milder blades.
The Menora aren’t coated at all, which is why they last so long (but less sharp to start with) as no thin platinum coating to wear off. With the Rocco, it gives a very smooth shave

I found it too mild - and I like a fairly mild shave. I used it with a spacer for a while (a home made spacer of a cut down blade) but it wasn't great. Shame you don't live near me, otherwise you could have borrowed it for a while.Looking for a new razor to keep long term
My go to razors are either a vintage Gillette 'slim' or 'tech' - both of which are perfect, for me at least.

Thanks, I've been using a merkur 34c for the last 10yrs but the chrome is coming off. Just fancied something "nice" to last so ordered the Feather, will arrive this week.
Let us know how you get on.You can make it less mild (although it might be perfect for you) by cutting down (snipping the edges off) an old blade to increase the gap a bit.

It goes against the grain (see what I did there...) to have to start hacking a 200-squid razor, I must say
You don't do anything to the razor. Just cut the edges from an old blade, and put that into the razor under the actual blade, and it changes the cutting angle of the blade.Bonefish Blues said:

Yes it does. But, as this thread has demonstrated, everyone is different - no two people have the same shave experience.
Had the razor in question been right for me, it would be a superb thing - it's beautifully made and is a lovely thing. But unfortunately there is no way of trying before you buy.

Cheap and cheerful cartridge device, but very quick and efficient. Also use their slick shave cream - slippery as a very slippery thing.

I had a look at them, and people seem to regard them highly but the replacement blade price made me try the leaf first. Cheap and cheerful cartridge device, but very quick and efficient. Also use their slick shave cream - slippery as a very slippery thing.
As far as I can see its nearly £20 for 6 replacement cartridges vs cheap and cheerful double edge blades (split in half to boot),
I can get done with the leaf as quick as I can with a normal disposable and not cut myself with it yet. I tried the leaf with the blades in the most aggressive position. It does shave a bit closer still but leaves me with a bit of irritation which isnt worth it. so next step is a more aggressive blade than the derby extra in the less aggressive position.
Agent shave match leaf's 30 day money back guarantee, so was a free change to try it and send back if it cut me to pieces but I will be keeping it.
Sad to report that my entire collection of vintage Gillette razors has been nicked.
These were all boxed 'as new' Gillette fat boys and slims - some rare toggle ones and boxed gold plated Aristocrats. They represented years of enjoyable collecting. I'd say about 20 in total, I don't have a single one left apart from one 'Tech' in the bathroom.
The only person who was in my cellar who could have nicked them was an electrician - I can't prove it, so can't accuse him to his face.
Pretty upsetting - but nothing I can do.
