My neighbour, who I hate, criticised my dress sense yesterday. I was wearing a white t shirt with blue hoops, a beret and had a string of onions over my shoulder. As he walked away, a Panini sticker of a German international footballer fell out of his pocket, so I didn't tell him and nicked it when he'd gone.

You know what the say......keep your French clothes and your enemy's Klose.

I hate to be that guy, but there's nothing geeky about that.

In fact, the geeks, I suspect, will be quite angry at how contrived the set up is for so little reward.

Surely that in itself is quite geeky.

Nope, and not only that the alleged joke relied on references to a sportman, which, for any self-respecting geek, is a big no-no nono

Geeky for me. Requires specialist knowledge that a) Klose is a German footballer and b) it’s pronounced Closer smile

Next you'll be telling us how Thora Hird got her name by defrosting an entire field full of frozen cows. wink

Of course, to determine how she did it you would first need to consider a spherical cow in a vacuum. nerd

Slightly off topic but if you self identify as intelligent, then you maybe should classify being called a geek as a hate crime

As with all such things, it's all down to intent and motivation. If it is being done to bully, belittle, and denigrate then of course it is out of order. If it's not then it's not.

We should just legislate "Be excellent to one another" and be done with it. Party on, dude.

Geek isn't an insult, it just means an exceptional depth of knowledge in something that's perhaps not very mainstream and usually tech related.

Nerd is someone who is more of an obsessive about a particular topic, one which is often solitary and as a result they are socially awkward.

I'd say that, in general, 'nerd', 'dork', and 'dweeb' still have pejorative connotations but geek has been pretty much successfully reclaimed.

Personally I am proud to be a geek.
