i get a shooting pain down my left leg during certain times like when i'm sat down and putting my socks on or my trousers.

i thought it might be a trapped nerve and have done various excercises but its not improved.

any ideas? or does the leg need to be amputated?

Did your GP rule out Sciatica?

Do you have any back pain or groin pain at all?

Where does it say he's been to his GP?
Don't think he has, that's why he's come on here!

Agree though, could be sciatica but who knows. If it is,bet it's low back problem. If it's persistent he needs to see GP.

True, I'm assuming the OP has been doing exercises suggested by his GP or a specialist.

Good point!

Tell him to touch his toes 20 times, or 10 bum squats... works for me!

Mind you, he might need to call an ambulance after the first touch. wink

Sorry OP. 5 years of disc trouble has made me cynical. biggrin

nope no GP yet. i'm a bloke i go six months after i should've done.

i've been doing stretches of the yoga kind (BUT I CAN CATAGORICALLY DENY I HAVE DONE YOGA! ANYONE SUGGESTING OTHERWISE WILL HAVE A HARSH EXCHANGE OF WORDS WITH ME!)

lots of leg lifts groin stretches etc. its just deep at the joint between the leg and groin area, hence massaging it is out of the question.

I get that, plus lots of other symptoms, but it looks like I have a fubar hip. Off to see the consultant next Friday to find the extent of the damage/expected procedure.

Other symptoms I get are, obviously really, pain in the hip when walking or running. But I do get the groin pain and pains down my leg too.

Another suggestion? Groin area ie: hernia (rupture).
Can give aching shooting pain down leg, especially back of leg.
Been there too!

it seems to have receded in the last week or so. maybe the excercises are helping?

i think being overweight doesnt help either but hectic lifestyle limits the excercise time!
