For the last few weeks I've had an on/off dull ache in my testicles. I'm a little worried about it especially as my best mate was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer and has just gone through chemo.
I know I should go to the doctors, but being a typical bloke I'm putting it off. If I were to make an appointment, do you think I should ask for an emergency one to be seen within the next few days instead of 2/3 weeks down the line.
Am I right in thinking that aching testicles isn't a symptom of testicular cancer?

It's not an emergency appointment in my opinion but definitely get it checked out.
Any time I go to the doctors I take an appointment with whoever is available. Trust it to be the time I go to query some hard tissue about an inch below my anus that I get the pretty blonde female doctor. No drama. I describe it. She says ok, lets have a look. I drop my trousers, she dons rubber gloves and tells me to lie on the bed facing away from her. She has a feel about and tells me it's nothing to worry about. Job done.
Just make sure you shower first and I think eye contact costs extra.

Nothing to worry about. It's probably prostate cancer... Or it could be a varicole. Or a hernia. Or it could be the way it is. I experience an aching from time to time like I've been kicked there. I've had every test you can imagine (that is relevant!). I've had my prostate checked by two different people. Fun. Conclusion by consultant urologist was that it's just one of those things. Of course, get it checked ASAP.

Your GP can give an initial check which may put your mind at ease.

I can't even count the number of times doctors have checked my balls - just go get it done. It's not in the slightest bit embarrassing and a good doctor will be professional about it and make it as quick as possible. They don't want to do it any more than you do.
Definitely worth getting checked. Sooner the better when it comes to testicular cancer, the treatment is very good compared to a few years ago

And what precisely Dr Diablos-66 do you expect to find on said "scan"? Oh and which sort of "scan" would you like? Do you have any idea how you scan balls? A healthy dose of radiation is always a good idea just because a patient has insurance. Is scan a much better idea than actually having the Dr examine you?How about if the nice Dr with the MBBS MRCGP (or similar) suggests further testing then you can ask your insurance to arrange it/pay for it.

My mate has found out two days ago he has testicular cancer. He's had the offending ball removed (luckily recovered in enough time not to miss out on Le Mans), but now faces Chemo/Radio therapy depending on the outcome of a CT scan to check for any spread.
He went to the doctors reporting a dull, continuous ache a year ago. The doctor dismissed him with it's all fine. He finally went back about three weeks ago and now faces this. Moral of the story - get the hell on with getting them checked out!!!
Ps. The original doctor called him at home after his op - methinks he is a tad concerned at having dismissed him...

This is why i suggested the scan option - My mate (who i referred to in my orignal post) was also dismissed by the doctor as just blue ball syndrome. 3 weeks later he gets the news from the hospital that he has cancer.My mate has found out two days ago he has testicular cancer. I'd say just get to the doctor's - if you're not sure, ask for a second opinion. They were clearly concerned with my mate as he went back for an ultrasound a day after his initial (this time round) assessment, and was on the table a week later. Just get the first job done and let them manage it.
