A couple of years ago, I went on holiday with my girlfriend, and this involved a lot of walking, now I admit my footwear probably wasn't the best in the world, but still, I ended up with a severe pain in my left foot, that resulted in me having to take rather unprecedented (for me) amounts of ibuprofen. It was so bad I really was struggling to put any weight on it at all.

Eventually after about 2 weeks, the pain was gone, and it hasn't really come back since... until now.

Last week I decided to walk in to town instead of getting the bus, a walk of about 5 miles.

Here I am again a week later with a pain in the same foot. It is not as severe as last time, but it is pretty sore still. This is annoying because I actually do like walking...

The pain seems to be at the right hand top side of the foot where the foot meets the ankle, and the pain is not present if I rest the foot, but as soon as I start bending it or walking on it, then pain quickly comes, particularly if I move the foot up or down (which of course, you do constantly when you walk). I've googled it but I am at a loss to what it could be, perhaps a strain, but why if its just caused by walking, and why always the same foot?

Any ideas of what it could be or a solution?

Antonia

how old are you? have you ever twisted your ankle before? do you know if you suffer from fallen arches, and do you only get it after walking quite far? what if you walk 3 miles?

do you get the pain during walking, or is it just after, and it worse the following day? have you tried icing it for 30mins or so after walking to see if that alleviates the pain a little. ice 30mins, off for 1 hour, ice 30mins, off for an hour (although, depending on how busy you are etc)....just ice when you can, just not too often. bag of frozen peas is ideal.

is the pain just local? do you notice any swelling? could be something like weak lateral ankle ligaments (especially if you've had previous injury to them - causes chronic ankle instability)

lots of things it could be mate....

amputation...not just yet biggrin

I had something similar as a kid. It might have been put down to something like an infection or damage to some ligaments.

I was prescribed some Voltorol Emulgel, and it either worked slowly, or went away by its own accord.

is the pain just local? Yes it occurs in one general area do you notice any swelling? No swelling; could be something like weak lateral ankle ligaments (especially if you've had previous injury to them - causes chronic ankle instability)
