Ooo.

Commiserations. But at the same time - whatever works for you - take heart from everyone else’s experience!

Good luck!

Well,

I read Alan Carr's book just after Christmas and went sober for 21 days, relatively easily.

Then, back on the drink until Sunday night just gone.

I have finaly realised that I am an alcoholic. I attended two AA meetings yesterday and will be attending another two today.

One day at a time.

Best of luck to all
Best of luck smile

I'm the same - simple enough to not drink, but when I do......

41 days for me now......feel better....lost over a stone....do feel pretty bored and like I've not had much fun lately though.

Sticking with it for now though.

52 days for me now - kept it going after dry January and aiming for 100 days as my next target. Then what? Not sure yet but no desire to go back to old ways and I know I would slip back into that routine very quickly so for now 1 is too many. Survived a big work social this week with no real issue which was a good test although it would have been very easy to have a big session.

36.4K calories and £409 saved so far according to my tracker app. Plus off the top of my head...

Lost the best part of a stone - my stomach is noticeably less protruded!
Blood pressure down
Settled stomach
Loads more concentration and energy
My face is no longer red and bloated
Up early and not tired - sleep is so much better and I don't wake up at 4am
I have weekends back - this is a big one!
Much calmer and less stressed
Anxiety is much lower
Not feeling slightly poisoned at all times
Not nipping to the shop (on my own) mid week to top up with another box of wine

I'm sure there are more but when I list the clear benefits like this it reminds me of what a **** alcohol can become as it (slowly) gets intertwined in your life over the years.

Yep 100 days remains my next goal.

As of Wednesday, it was 2558 days, or 61,392 hours, or 3,683,520 minutes, or £12,800.

Was not the worst decision I've made.

Stick with it. It gets easier.

I wish I drank more, then I could save all that money.

I think this might be quite common, and depending on your previous drinking habits you are probably finding yourself with quite a bit of "time on your hands".

However with 40+ days in you hopefully will be seeing some differences in your energy levels and disposable income. It's just a matter of using this and finding something to fill that booze shaped hole with.

Personally in the early stages I went swimming more, read more, and as the weather improved went for a walk each evening, whilst working through "albums you must hear before you die" on Spotify.

In the longer term I joined a scuba club and learned to dive, and now also volunteer at a museum.

I think there is a period of adjustment as you come to terms with the increased time you have available. But with the improving health and financial situation I hope you are finding developing, you have the means to develop new hobbies and interests.

Don't shy away from going to the pub though if that's what you enjoy doing. I still go for quiz and comedy nights, and usually pop in when walking the dogs. Only difference is that I have a coffee or pint of soda water instead of a couple of pints of Stella...

I gave up in my mid 40s BTW about 7 years ago. Wish I'd done it 10 years sooner...

That's only a fiver a day... Less than two pints in the pub a night. It's not necessarily volume. It can simply be habitual regularity that puts nails in your coffin.

Well after 599 dry days I fell off the wagon.

Sigh I really love being drunk, I’m much funnier when drunk.

Back to it, going to struggle, but have surgery planned so that should help keep me off it.

Sadly, life does seem better with drugs.

I had to check back on this thread to work out my days dry - 37. I just belatedly finished the last few chapters of the alcohol experiment book and I'd say it certainly helped, maybe not for the past 37 days as I could have forced myself to do that, but hopefully for times to come when drinking temptation would have been stronger. I'm pleased with myself!

That's still 599/600 days off. 99.83% dry. That's quite a high percentage.

200 days. No small achievement either. Roll on 250.

I’m still off it too.. 9 months with one wobble at Christmas. It definitely gets better I genuinely hardly think about it which is very different to the start. I romanticised having a drink an awful lot at the beginning which is just bullst really.

Life is just easier without it now in a big way. I’ve managed two lads weekend trips and a stag do unscathed although I’m not going to lie it was hard to listen to the waffle sometimes lol

Congratulations everyone!
