Which of these is stopping my weight loss?
Discussion
Hello all,
I need a bit of advice on which of the following foods I am eating, is stopping my weight loss.
i am trying to drop a few kg, but it's just not happening.
So I think what of the following should I cut out, or reduce.
1/ Breakfast,
1 cup (35g) Porrige oats, 200ml skimmed milk & 200ml water,& 1 sliced bannana mixed in the hot oats when served.
Then 1 boiled egg complete
Then 2 smallish oranges.
The milk is 261kJ & 3.6g
The porrige is 522kJ & 3g fat
The water is ,,,,, just water.
Calories in 100g of bananas(an average-sized banana weighs 120 grams)
Banana, Average, Fresh, Raw without Skin
Calories 95.0kcal
Carbohydrate 20.9g
Protein 1.2g
Fat 0.3g
Fibre 4.2g
Oranges
Calories in 100g of oranges
Calories 62.1kcal
Carbohydrate 15.6g
Protein 1.0g
Fat 0.3g
Fibre 3.2g
So roughly Calories (160g): 99.4kcal in an orange
2/ Lunch 3 oranges
3/ Evening meal
150g fresh beef steak with onion and little cooking oil.
200g steamed & fried cabbage in little cooking oil.
Then another 3 oranges.
There are no middle snacks, nothing at all.
Any ideas, or should I just stick to this?
My workings out,,,,,,,,,,,
I worked out my BMR is 1908 (with age, height, weight)
My cal intake is about 2173
My AMR is my BMR x 1.7 (good exercise 7 days a week)
Giving me a requirement of around 3291 cal.
If I am eating 2173, then that gives me a shortfall of around 1100 cal/day.

What was your starting weight?
What is your weight now?
What exercise do you do?...3 or 4 days a week allowing for rest should be enough.Diet looks ok,maybe switch to chicken or turkey but it's largely alright.
I suspect you may need to change your exercise routine..

About half a pound a day lost.
I am exercising every day ! twice ! for 1 hour monrning, 1 hour evening.
OK, so I will cut the beef for a week or so, and try the white meat

Vette you need to be careful with fruit, its loaded with sugar that will as said above cause your body to store fat. If its any consultation my weight loss has stopped, here is yesterday for me:
Breakfast
2 Scrambled eggs
2 back bacon rashers (smoked)
Dinner
BBQ'ed Chicken breast and chorizo
Only water to drink and walked about 10miles
Total
Calories: 808
Fat: 40g
saturated:10g
Carbs: 10g
Protein: 94g
Eaten this amount for a week and no weight loss! People say how if you eat to little you won't lose weight, so how come all anorexics aren't obese! Stuck at 16st 8lbs!!

Because, unlike you, they don't eat anything. I knew an anorexic who ate a Mars bar for lunch one day; that is all she ate in a 24 hour period. I suspect she didn't have much the previous day or following day either. So there you go, you're eating too much! Just drink water and eat a single apple a day for a week. It's stupid but you will lose weight rapidly. My suspicion however is that the body is stting itself about a lack of food and storing what it can as it thinks it's a drought and may not get food for weeks.uk_vette said:
Hi Lemonslap,
Thanks for you input,
Well I don't do 10 miles a day, so your well ahead of me there.
I have cut the oranges down to just 1 a day ,,,sob, sob,,,
Do you use a calorie counter from the internet, if so, which one do you use, as I would like to use one also.

Use an Iphone app: My Fitness Pal. Allows you to scan bar codes of the food you buy and calculates everything for you and it's free!! Your be fine on one orange mate, I was drinking one glass of smoothie a day during the first 2 weeks of my diet. Only stopped drinking it due to the wait loss slowing. Thanks for you input,

you need to think about if you want to lose FAT or WEIGHT, these are two different things.
if your happy with your shape, and want to lose weight then changing a few things in your diet is fine.
if your not happy with your shape, then you need an overhaul, on training and diet.
you'll be shocked to know that in order to lose weight/fat, you need to eat more. (But eat the right kind of foods)

Thanks lemonslap,
Unfortunatly I don't have an iPhone.
Just a simple N95 for me.
Perhaps some one else watching or commenting here will know of a working calorie counter.

quick look says:
1) swap the egg yolk in your complete egg for three additional egg whites
2) cut oranges to 1 (see you already have) add in different fruit, remember fructose is not as bad as sucrose as per image someone posted. eat different colour fruits, kiwis are very good but not to everyones taste.
3) use rapeseed or extra virgin oil instead of normal cooking oil, the former if you need high heat cooking (olive burns at a lower heat) use sparingly as all oils re extremely high in calories!
4) beef should be lean if poss or Bison if you can get it
5) if you can eat a small balanced meal between your main meals then it'd keep your metabolism working (for the protein side of these small meals, hard boiled eggs & protein shakes are great as you can take them anywhere)
many diets get to much of their calorie intake from carbs imo as there are easy to get hold of, along side complex carbs protein is what will make you feel full for longer
but! the key of any diet is getting the right balance of carbs, protein & fat for YOU, it wont be the same for everyone.
a handy tool to monitor your food balance is: http://www.dietcontroller.com/index.php?set=yes I use it on a mac, not sure if its PC friendly??

I don't cook at all with extra virgin olive oil, but plain olive oil is fine, but rapeseed or groundnut is as already mentioned better for high temperature cooking (stir frys etc). A good point Pvapour use rapeseed or extra virgin oil instead of normal cooking oil, the former if you need high heat cooking (olive burns at a lower heat) use sparingly as all oils re extremely high in calories!

Keep the fire burning is what they say. And the balance is essential, I think getting calories from carbs is a pretty poor idea if you live a life of low activity.many diets get to much of their calorie intake from carbs imo as there are easy to get hold of, along side complex carbs protein is what will make you feel full for longer

I'm not overweight, but noticed a very very fast improvement in losing FAT when dropping on to a low carb diet.
Good points Pv.
