Any docs in the house?

Im after some advice. Basically I mentor a girl whos starts a sports therapy business and im interested to find out how a patient gets from the docs to a clinic for treatment how are they referred and who gets the business?

I presume there is a list of NHS approved therapists.

IME my GP won't recommend a clinic/therapist, just said to find an osteopath/chiropractor with certs on the wall and personal recommendations. Sorry, no help to you.

Pharmacist experience;

The therapist would have a contract with the local PCT (primary care trust) who hold all the NHS money for the county/area, the therapist would bill the PCT directly for the time/expense using the PCT's approved paperwork. The GP would only refer patients and then the therapist would likely give feedback to the GP if treatment was working or not.

Currently i have only seen GP referral to chiropractors (friend of a friend).

First thing she should to do is find out if the PCT has allocated funding for alternative treatments like sports therapy and then enquire how she could access the funds. Then start grooming GP's so they refer patients to her eek

Interesting, thanks.

She currently gets a lot of work via insurance claims whip lash etc... its probably cheaper for a doc to prescribe Ibuprofen for an inflamed knee injury than a sports therapist.
