Apologies if this seems a bit esoteric but I'm curious to know what people here consider to be "long" or "short" calf muscles. Would you take, say, the halfway point between the base of the foot and the top of the knee joint (when seated) as the divide between a high or low insertion point for the gastros? Or between ankle bone and knee, or some other guide?

Bottom of the gastric, shown just above the horizontal line which the artist has attached to their soleus label.

Not really sure what you want to know here. Both calf muscles insert on the Calcaneus, the origin attachment of the Gastroc is slightly higher than the Soleus: Gastroc-Femur,Soleus-Fibula/Tibia.There is no such thing as a high or low insertion point for a muscle:just two attachments: origin and insertion. The origin is the proximal attachment and the insertion distal.Hope this helps.smile
