Well I have always been reasonably fit but never really been one for running big distances. Thought i would set myself a little challenge for the month of January to run 100 miles in the calendar month.

So far I am just about on target with 88.7 miles completed.

I appreciate its not a massive distance to sum but for me, working shifts, with other interests etc it has been a canny little challenge so far.

Well done - how are you doing it? 4 - 5 miles most days, or longer runs over fewer days?

Nice idea smile long term goals instead of silly "oh I try and go to the gym 2/3 times a week....and then forget one week and never go again"

It sounds like you are, but from experience I recommend you mix things up - different distances, different routes... keep it interesting. Then come and join us over here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Sounds good, well done! I did 28 miles in a week in December but have been too busy with work since. Must get back into it!

Well a short but hilly run with the dog this morning, was bloody hard work and nearly packed in a couple of times. Now up to 93 miles though, so 2 more short runs and i will have cracked it.

Good idea. I’ve been running too much on the road so my legs have decided to tell me to ease up a bit.

So roughly 24.5 miles a week. Some people will no doubt say they run that backwards in day but it’s quite a bit. I’d struggle unless I did a longer run on the weekend as I’m still heavy so struggle to run on consecutive day. Might try this myself soon.

Upto 97.2 miles now so within reach, thats my all time record for a month now. Previous best was 96 but that was done last spring when I was off work for a while and had plenty of time and a good sleep pattern. Working full time on 24/7 shifts with not enough sleep makes it more of a challenge.

Congrats! Wish I could run, but the smoking doesn't really help (and I tend to get bored quickly!)

Tendonds, ligaments etc do not respond kindly to a sudden big increase in mileage so don't make a habit of overdoing it. A 10% increase in volume is the golden rule for running. I understand your goal and I congratulate you on achieving it, but it is not as a benign an effort as it looks for everybody.
