Fastest to burn 1000calories challenge
Discussion
Was in the gym recently talking to the guys in there rather than working out, which seems a past-time for many people these days, anyhow...
There are 4 types of machines in our gym that measure calories burned. The treadmill, cross-trainer, bikes and rowing machine.
The first three all need you to input your weight as they do in most gyms, though they don't use height or bodyfat, it will give a vague guideline to calories burned, though it is a complete ballpark figure of course.
So the challenge set: what's the fastest time any of us could reach 1000calories on any machine or a combination of. The only catch being that if you take a break, that time is included.
Anyone up for joining me and seeing how quickly you can do it?

If ever I warm up on a cross trainer, according to the computer based on my weight, I burn just over 800 cals in 40 minutes.
Obviously 20 cals/min so should burn 1000 in just over 50 mins because I am usually pretty knackered after 40 minutes.
On the rowing machine I think I used to burn around 600-650 cals/40 minutes (10k but that was never as a warm up because that was much more difficult for me.

That was maximum attack for 50 minutes - see the average heart rate.
Could not go any quicker at all & not something I would repeat in a hurry!
Edit: on a cross trainer with no female distractions!

^^^that's quite an impressive time to set.
I'm going to be trying it out this lunchtime so will see how I do.
I usually go on the crosstrainer for 30 minutes, and have got the calories burned to 718 as my highest so far, so it will be close beating your time as i'm likely to slow down a lot for the last 300 calories

Well, had a go at it this lunchtime.
weighing in at 85kgs, I managed 1000 calories in 45mins 28seconds.
I started out at too high a level, so was completely out of it by the end. Will be having another go tomorrow but it takes quite a bit of motivation for me, and I can see myself actually doing worse

At my normal rate on the treadmill (according to the treadmill figures anyway) it would take me about 51-52 mins.
Usually takes just over 5 mins to burn 100 cals.
thats using my weight of 85kgs
what speed do you run at?Usually takes just over 5 mins to burn 100 cals.

This is just what the treadmill tells me, i have no idea how accurate it is.

Brilliant effort! As you know it's really tough to keep speed up on a high resistance. I won't be challenging you though as I was maxing out for wayyyy too long!weighing in at 85kgs, I managed 1000 calories in 45mins 28seconds.

I used a pretty random level setting thing on it.level 18 for 6 mins, then 15 for 1 min, 18 for 5 mins, then 15 for 2 mins, and so on so the level 18 went 6 5 4 3 2 1, and the 15 went 1 2 3 4 5 6, then the rest at level 15.
tomorrow i'm going to have a go at purely level 16. may be boring, but i'll see if I can get the RPM up a bit higher this time.

Distance about 10.6 k? I run about the same as you on a treadmill but burn slightly more cals - I do the whole run on a 5% incline and laugh at how bad I feel when I stagger off the machine after an hour.
I normally run flat on the treadmill so that accounts for the difference, i think every 100 cals for me is about 1.15km so just over 11k for 1000 cals.s3fella said:

220 - 41 = 179. Not exactly going to kill him!
Nearly did though!! I certainly would not advise anyone to work that hard for that long without knowing what your limits are.
I can peak at low 190's for a minute or so without any effects but its bloody hard!
My MHR used to peak at about 218 about 10 years ago during 'the bleep test' - NEVER to be repeated again....
