Good relationship to alcohol!
Discussion
OK I think I am not the only person who probably drinks more than the recommended 14 units a week.
I have been cutting down over the last few years, but still reach for a nice glass of vino when stressed. This I feel is an unhealthy relationship and would like to move it to a healthy relationship. i.e. drink for pleasure with good friends.
Now I don't think I am anywhere near the AA position, just wanting to change my attitude and habits so that I am closer to the 14 units a week.
I also think the media and advertising has had an effect on culture which can be unhelpful. I would love coffee bars to be open later into the night to change culture, but obviously this is currently just an idea in everyone minds.
With smoking there are classes, patches, fake cigs and so on.
Is there anything for alcohol?

If you're drinking alone and you want to de-stress, why not take up some kind of interest or hobby to de-stress instead of resorting to wine?
If socially, when they get a round in, you can always ask for a coke or orange juice every other pint. If they ask if you're sure, just say, "Yep!". I mean, what are your friends going to do if you don't have a wine or beer with them? Stab you? Exactly.

The "safe" units per week of 22 for men and 14 for women is a GUESSED at figure.
I was told this from a friend of mine who lectures at Cambridge University.
No proper scientific papers exist to support what the safe levels are, possibly because we
all vary so much in size, weight, diet, age, metabolism and excersise taken.
Obviously the more alcohol one consumes the greater the risk of things going wrong at some stage
but you won't suddenly explode or burst into flames with the tiny levels you are talking about.
