Hobbies are good, but when you get home late, and stressed getting out to do the hobby sometimes doesn't happen.
Depends on the hobby. Mine's Battlefield 2. biggrin (I also do various types of fitness training/sports.)

So do you get out to your sports every time you are meant too?

How many glasses of wine are in a bottle?
Depends on the size of the glass!
this has been one of the issues with the insidious creep of problem drinking

in days of yore a 'small' glass of wine was 125 ml and a 'large' glass of wine 175 ml

increasingly wine is being sold in bars in 250 ml glasses i.e. 1/3 of a standard 75cl bottle

combined with a until recently an upward creep of ABV in lagers in particular - in the last couple of years the premium lager brands have attempted to re- establish themselves at 4% abv rather than the creeping towards 6 % we had seen and the traditional none premiums at 3.5 ish %

Yep, even if it means doing private training at 11pm. I guess it is a different topic but if you want the results enough, you will make the time/effort to train.

I found the results of this poll interesting and unexpected:

Just cut it out. It's really not that hard. I go through phases of drinking every day, not excessively but a glass of wine, a couple of beers or a glass of brandy.

The first 2 or 3 days after stopping it can be quite difficult to sleep, and you really feel like a drink. I find that after that I don't even think about it, and it sometimes takes an effort to start again.

Conversely other times - Friday afternoon for instance - if I haven't had a beer all week then I really enjoy it.

Ive been struggling to stop drinking as much. Ive been smashing my way through a bottle of wine + every night and more like 2.5 on a weekend.

In November i decided enough was enough and stopped drinking in the week as it was getting to a silly level. It was hard for the first month as i mainly drank so i could get to sleep at night. I stuck to it and now ive never felt better. I have had the odd cheeky glass in the week but only a couple of times.

Its just a case of breaking the habbit i found.

Well done! Out of interest, when you drank to sleep, did you feel refreshed the next day? "They" say that it's not quality sleep but I've never experimented.

No mate not at all. Just constantly tired every day.

It was just a case i couldnt get to sleep im fine once im actually asleep. I could get in bed not having a drink at 12pm and still be wide awake at 4am. If i had a drink id get into bed and drift off within a few mins. Hence me having a drink every night.

TBH i still feel tired some days but im loads better than i was. Seem to drop off within 30min or so at the moment. Going to aim to go bed a tiny bit ealier week by week now and hopefully will get back into a good sleeping pattern like ive been after for the last 10-12 years.

Oh, right.

Well, if it's any help, it takes me 45 minutes or more to drop off and I haven't ever used alcohol to get to sleep. That said, I'm usually fresh the next day.

If you do have problems getting to sleep, try some basic meditation techniques eg focus on your breathing as while you may not sleep instantly, your mind won't be going crazy thinking about work etc.

I used to drink to get to sleep, but then use sleep easy teas now with a relaxation tape. Works a treat.

But now I really only drink if stressed/tired.

An interesting thread, without the preaching that so often crops up. I suppose it's not surprising that car enthiusiasts tend not to be heavy drinkers.

I feel there might be a bit of "prohibition and do-gooder combined with media scaremongering" about the safe number of units. How can the safe number be 1-1.5 pints of weak beer a day?

Do you think we drink more than our parents did at the same age?

What do people in other countries think about the dangers of alcohol?

Love you thinking. Also is there any more recent research on the topic, or is it political sensitive and therefore not released?

My Italian friends happily gave glasses of red wine to their children to be taken while eating dinner.

The irresponsible alcoholics. hehe
